Hey is it too late to change my order? Decided I like the black font as well and was going to purchase two of the faux cherry from you and two black font red escape's from SP.

Thanks, Brendan

Updated you.  You're aware that the font on the ones you get from me is different from the ones SP sells, right?

You can if you want to, but it's not necessary.  I baked the Paypal seller fee into the prices.

Yep, this is the Cherry font, where as the SP font, is, well, SP-ish. Lol. The real reason was because I have a set of engraved keys for my Poker, and I thought the black font would match better. I also have a couple sets of Cherry DS keys coming, and your white faux font would match them better haha.

Sending payment now!

Thanks, Brendan

Ok cool just making sure.  I've seen a couple of instances of people misunderstanding what a group buy was about and being upset with the result.  Thanks for the prompt payment!

Make sure you recess the stem a bit in the moogle kits or they will sit up higher than the surrounding keys (see the previous Moogle kit for details).

If I get a chance I'll take pics and measure.

And there will ONLY be one original Cherry Corp Doubleshot Red!
(Attachment Link) 33049[/ATTACH]

Recess the stem?  Are you talking about grinding it down?  Or is stem length something that SP can customize?

If you want too see what will happen if you don't specify a shorter stem, just look at my moogle kit picture in post #393. It's not a pretty sight...

Yeah, I remember seeing those pictures.  I'm typing on moogle keys right now (on a Rosewill), though, and they're not higher than the other keys (apart from the normal SP profile difference).  There's definitely not a visible gap between the key bottoms and my case as in your pics.  Your photos were taken on an actual Cherry keyboard, right?

That said, looking straight down the bottom of the moogle keys vs. Cherry 2-shots, the gap between the end of the stem and the bottom of the keycap walls is definitely greater on the Cherries.  Like maybe 2mm vs. 1mm on the moogle keys.

For reference:

No offense to The_Ed, but I think there is something else going on with his setup.  I have the same moogle kits and a DAS2, which is the same as his Cherry keyboard. I don't have see the same gap that he has when I put a moogle kit onto the DAS2.  From my DAS2:

ripster posted some relevant pictures in his Camo Filco thread.  I'm not sure what to do now with the stem length.  As I said, the moogle kit looks fine on my Rosewill.  I suppose it would also look fine 1mm shorter.

From left to right: blue Alt from the last RGB group buy, Filco white Windows key, black Cherry pad-printed app key from 99hkbiz, beige Control key from the most recent Moogle Kit group buy.

If you look at the bottom of the keys, both the blue Alt and the beige Control are a tad higher than the Filco keycap and the Cherry pad-print keycap.  If you look at the top, blue Alt, beige Control, and Filco white keycaps have about the same height.

So I think it depends on what  keycaps will be next to your RGBY keycaps.

yes, Filco and most non-Cherry keycaps sit higher than Cherry ones.  So if you are trying to exactly match Cherry caps, best to shorten the stem a bit.  Easiest way to figure how much is to measure the diff between the height of the top of the real Cherry cap and that of the SP cap from the last GB (either the blue Alt or one of the MK keys - they should be the same AFAIK.)

Slowly but surely we are apparently refining the design :)
Filco Majestouch-2 with Cherry Corp. doubleshot keys - Leopold Tenkeyless Tactile Force with Wyse doubleshots - Silicon Graphics 9500900 - WASD V1 - IBM Model M 52G9658 - Noppoo Choc Pro with Cherry lasered PBT keycaps - Wyse 900866-01 - Cherry G80-8200LPBUS/07 - Dell AT101W - several Cherry G81s (future doubleshot donors) (order of current preference) (dang I have too many keyboards, I really only need two)

I'd rather it be too tall than too short, that way I can file down the stem if need be.

Thanks litster.  I would assume that our RGBY kits will be paired with either moogle keys or WASD blanks on the front row (i.e., the spacebar and menu key).  The goal is not necessarily to match Cherry keys exactly, but to adapt a Cherry set for modern keyboards.

Since I think the chances of our keys being placed alongside real Cherry keys on the front row are small, I'm leaning toward not changing the standard SP stem length, since it's a known quantity. (Has any group buy ever messed with SP's default before?)  I'm not totally convinced on this yet though.

I'll put moogle Control, Alt, and Super next to WASD spacebar and Menu and see how that looks.  I'll also doublecheck how the moogle right Shift looks next to Cherry "?/".

My camera battery is dead so I don't have pictures yet, but the moogle right Shift does not look higher than the other keys on its row, on my Rosewill at least.  Its profile is different as expected, but its low end lines up with the low end of the Cherry keys.

The WASD keys look different, but again it's profile and not resting height.  Before I got my moogle kit I used WASD keys along with aggiejy's RGBs to complete the bottom row on my bedoubleshotted keyboards (a Filco, a Leopold, and a Rosewill), and I never noticed anything other than the normal profile issues.

ripster, N8N, is there a counter-argument I'm ignoring?  Can someone else with a Cherry brand keyboard confirm or refute The_Ed's height issues?

I can tell you that moogle/earlier RGB rshift is a little higher than Cherry doubleshots.  That said it hasn't bothered me enough to do anything about it yet.  Agree with too long is better than too short comment.  (not a word!)

There clearly is a difference in stem length relative to the key bottom (see my earlier link).  The only question is because Signature Plastic's profile doesn't exactly match ANY other ****ing key profile you have to pick whether to go more to Filco or more to Cherry.

Oh yeah I can see the difference myself just by looking at the bottom of the keys.  My question is, does the difference matter and why?

Here's an idea, how about someone measure the depth of the hole in vintage and SP keys and match them. Then they're not too low and not too high right?

Still not sure I'm following what the problem is.

Here's a depth-of-fieldy pic showing that the moogle right Shift actually is seated a bit higher than the Cherry keys in its row (I was wrong about this before).

Yes, yes, I understand the keycap geometry issue.  But I'm not sure it's a big enough problem to warrant messing with the stem length.  I guess there isn't any real risk to fixing it though.

Completely off-topic, but my mom needs a new caps-lock(don't ask). I was looking at wasd and noticed the custom keycaps section. Is the "R2 1x1.75" the right size and row I need for caps-lock?

Comparing the keys side by side, there is a slight difference in the SP and Cherry Profile

@hashbaz,
These keys were are ordering, I am aware that the Red Esc will have white text, what about the modifier keys, are they going to have white text as well?

Let us face the reality, not only the height, but also the angle of the SP modifier row and the zxcv-row (=row 4) is different (steeper) than that of the Cherry-keycaps. The asdf-row (=row 3) is absolutely the same if you ask me.

The second item is that I might be adjusting the colors slightly, based on intelligence from Biniaris.  I sent him my color samples and he compared them with sixty's Rebel RGBY kit.  Turns out that BDH is the blue he used, but as expected the red and green are slightly different (sixty's are RR and VCS).  sixty's yellow is YBP, which is noticeably darker and more orange than YY.  I'm not sure I like it.  When I get the samples back from Bini I'll make a final decision and let you guys know.

My current feeling is that I'll probably end up keeping our colors.

Have you decided what colors you will be using? I really like the colors from sixty's kit...
