[IC] Aurora Input Series 65 - Raffle on Monday, November 23rd 2020
« on: Wed, 09 September 2020, 12:26:49 »

Hello,

I've been wanting to make a keyboard. The time has come! I made some sketches and showed Zambumon. He made 3D files. Salvun's CNC machine goes brrr. Wilba makes PCB. Voilà! Keyboard.

The main inspiration comes from keyboards with handles, I love them, so this one has some. I also wanted a big weight because I like heavy keyboards, what can I say. Also, the sides are seamless, which is very nice IMO. I hope you like the design as well! Below is a summary of details, should have everything you would want to know about the project.

Details:
- Material: Aluminium case, Stainless Steel weight, Brass or Aluminium plate
- Colors: Black and Silver
- Layout: 65% with both ANSI and ISO variants available
- Typing angle: 8°
- Width: 314.75mm
- Depth: 110.80mm
- Height: 19.57mm (front), 35.00mm (back)
- Weight: Approximately 2.25kg, depending on configuration
- Plate mounting style: 6-point top mount leaf spring
- Interface: USB-C
- Electronics: WT65-G PCB designed by wilba.tech, QMK compatible and fully programmable with VIA configurator
- Availability: 200 units
- Price: 529€ (479€ for non-EU) with Brass plate, 519€ (469€ for non-EU) with Aluminium plate, extra PCB's are 59€ each while additional plates are 49€ for Brass and 39€ for Aluminium
- Ships in 2021 from Germany
- Designed by Oblotzky and Zambumon, in collaboration with Salvun and Wilba

More professional texts that go more in-depth here: https://oblotzky.industries/pages/aurora-input-series-65

Salvun will be making a prototype tonight at 21:30 CET on his stream at https://www.twitch.tv/salvuncnc Archived video of stream: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/736244661, top halfway done, bottom piece done.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask!

With all due respect, Oblotzky Industries still has a modest budget and we couldn't acquire a time machine to pull off that ****.

Alternatively, will plate files be released?

Due to the leaf spring design, the plate shall only be made in aluminum, brass, stainless steel, copper, or as you point out carbon fibre. Materials such as POM, PLA, or polycarbonate should be avoided.

That being said, given the layout options (ISO and ANSI plates) and the available materials and finishes (brass, black anodized aluminium, and silver anodized aluminium), we are already talking of at least 6 plate options and if I were in Oblotzky's position, I would rather keep things as they are right now for this pre-order.

You could get a crazy amount of flex out of a carbon fiber leaf spring.
