Finally I got brass weight

But I have a question what is kind of treatment it should be

Keep it real or sanding blasting  ,
pvd I think not better it will make weight  thicken that may can't put in bottom
what is u guys opinion there only choose one road

Shiny is best option, if possible...

I'd also like shiny but what would sand blasted look like?

I'm definitely in the sandblasted group then. Cleaning finger prints is way easier than rust. Plus it looks great!

You guys are mixing up concepts. PVD is a coating, but it’s like microns thick unless I’m missing something. Regardless we don’t need PVD. Brass can still be polished without PVD. Not the end of the world if it’s not, but I’d prefer something polished, so it can be cleaned more easily (cause smooth). If brass is not sealed it WILL tarnish and thus it will need to be cleaned.

With the sandblasted finish, are you sure the fingerprints aren’t just tarnishing? Have you tried using something acidic to clean it? Like vinegar & baking soda or salt?

Ya I just looked at it as well, would microns really cause the weight to not fit? Seems kind of crazy to me. But ya if that's the case then I'll do raw as well. I'll just polish the weight every once in a while. Only annoying part will be polishing the mid piece and the plate. Although I guess I'd never really see the plate so who cares if it tarnishes.

Just make the weight match the plate/mid piece finish

Is just the weight that you cannot do PVD?

If mid & plate is not PVD, I don’t want the brass :(

Have you ever had brass with PVD? I have and it scratches and attracts a lot of grime... at least shiny pvd does. I would much rather have it raw/sandblasted

Yes I have. I am not too worried about that. My desk stays very clean and I don’t plan to carry this one around.

@exclusive

I think sandblasted is best, but it should be a light sandblast not heavy. Old OTD is lightly sandblasted and looks great, and light should help with clean ability. Think the prototype pic you have has too hard of a sandblast so it doesn't look as good. My opinion anyway, light sandblast.

It would be really great if there was some kind of protective coating on the plate to prevent tarnishing, it's really hard to clean the plate when the board is assembled.

As long as the weight is lightly sandblasted it's fine for me, if the front face was polished it would probably be even easier to clean off tarnish, but I can live with a light sandblast.

I'm basically in that camp as well. The plate being coated would be really nice because that's the only part I'd have a hard time polishing.

the whole reason brass parts are so popular in the first place is tarnishing

you can buy a can of brass lacquer if you don't want that to happen

I don’t think tarnishing is the reason, but I did plan to play with aging for kicks.

That said, brass is so easy to finish yourself, as long as it looks good, I don’t really care which they pick. I’ll be happy with whatever the choice is lol.

If it arrived clean that would work for me, but every untreated brass part I ever got arrived with at least some tarnish, a coating from the factory will always turn out better because they can apply it directly after surface finishing.

Like I said, basically everything works for the weight or middle piece, those flat front surfaces are rather easy to clean up too,  but a coating on the plate would be very nice, because a plate is a pain to clean even if it's not even assembled yet because of all the holes.

I think if the weight match the same style as the brass mid section and is sealed to prevent tarnish and such (low maintenance) that would be great for me. I just didn't want to receive it and then having to do extra things to prevent tarnish and what not. My 2 cents.

I read on the E8-V1 group buy chat that SA profile was an issue due to the small gap or something. Will we have an issue with that, I joined a sa group buy in august just for this board.

Pcb backlight testing

From the looks of it, it's bright enough with solid keys over it, but how is the transition of the colors? Is it a smooth transition or should we be expecting a little bit of visual lag? Honestly I wouldn't care too much about it since RBG isn't really my thing, but it's always better to be informed.
