KMAC dedicated cable
« on: Wed, 24 July 2013, 12:27:15 »
I received a KMAC PCB today. Since the PCB extends out where the USB is it'll have to be removed so it can fit into the TEK-80. I'll then have to solder a dedicated cable on. I noticed this while looking at the PCB that may make the job easier for me. Wondering if anyone can confirm it'll work.

This is the back of the PCB. Note there are no traces going to the USB connector on this side. Also note that it says GND on the highlighted holes, just like there is a GND on usb receptacles. http://i.imgur.com/JPVYgxt.jpg
This is the front of the PCB. The traces going to the USB connector originate from the four highlighted holes. http://i.imgur.com/uaYwoo6.jpg

What I'm wondering is.. Can I simply solder a cable to those four holes. It seems as if it'll work because it seems those four pins are the final part of the circuit BEFORE the USB plug, and also because the holes seem to match up with USB receptacle connections.

i think i saw somebody doing that on OTD but I don't know for sure.
I also remember that the two holes above the connections were used to keep the cable in place with a zip tie.

That's interesting. I wasn't able to try it myself since I don't yet have my solder. However, I didn't notice this before but the holes are labelled :
5V
D-
D+
GND

These are DEFINITELY labelled the same as USB and I'm 99% sure this will work.

I know this thread is quite old, and very inactive. Just letting you all know that I just tried it and it does indeed work.
