Hello there!
« on: Sun, 09 December 2018, 11:19:57 »
Hello keyboard fans,

Been lurking this forum for years whitout even thinking to register, this is done now ;)

My first experience with a mechanical was when I was student, an IBM model M that my father brought me from work.
It had an old AT connector and I needed to use a PS2 adapter to plug it into my computer, there was no USB keyboards at that time (yes, I'm a bit old :p).
I loved it, it's bulking string keys was a joy to use compared to membrane keyboards and I could punch it with no damage when I was angry no to find a bug in my code :D.

Then had to leave to work, didn't brought the keyboard with me (also my father disposed it :() and started a long and boring time with membrane keyboards again.
Had to search a successor for my venerable IBM model M and found this forum many years ago, thank you all guys for providing such useful information!
Also discoved that, as any hobby, you can go pretty crazy with mech keyboards and it can quickly become unreasonably expensive.

As of now I own 3 boards, all in AZERTY ISO layout:
- Filco 105 keys with Cherry browns.
- Filco TKL with Cherry blues.
- Topre Realforce 105 keys with variable switch weights.

I'm thinking of doing my own keyboard from scratch in the future if I have the time and dedication.

Rico

Well, wanted to travel light I guess :p
But now I miss this keyboard.
Are Unicomp made versions any good compared to the original?
I may have a try one day.

Good is a relative term. They're decent if you can live with FUBAR keycaps.

It don't know what FUBAR means, could you educate me ?
After all, I registered this forum to learn new things :p

So you mean that maybe a purchase of a vintage IBM model M would be the best option?

You can safely buy a Unicomp and replace the keys with vintage ones.

My review of the PC122 is in my signature. :)
