60 Percent Split Keyboard by 2Moons

The Alice has been split.

Affordable and Beautiful

Designed to be elegant, yet cost effective. This is a true DIY keyboard but uses nearly all SMD components. Even the RGB version which includes dual OLED displays and is based on the Corne, uses mainly surface mount components. Initially in acrylic and stainless steel, the curves give it style, the build makes it a challenge, and the parts make it affordable for anyone. Though not ground breaking initially, upgrades have been made. The non-RGB version is simple and easy to build.

I really like this idea, but I think you should consider changing the name. It's not even like a pun on Alice, it's literally just Alice.

I honestly didn't know what to call it initially so I used my wife's name instead. I'm totally open to names. I thought of Alice as a type of keyboard and not a specific keyboard in and of itself so I figured I would just call it that.

Are you considering adding a right side 'B'?

Are you considering adding a right side 'B'?

Right side B has been added to both the regular and RGB/OLED version of the designs. Rev1 will include the right side B.

My morning showerthought today was that the next iteration on the Alice design should be a split, and here we are. Interested in seeing how this progresses.

This will be etched into the back of the right side board now. Also looking for more quotes. :)

Update:

Thank you so much everyone. Google form has been added. New pics of black acrylic but let me know what colors you would like to see. Layout picture has also been adjusted. Questions about layout in the google form.

Damn... with split right-shift and split backspace this would be insta-buy worthy.

Looks like everyone wants it as well. Layout has been updated. As far as colors and thickness go, looks like blue pcb and 3mm clear acrylic. That's going to look spectacular.

Will you include a trss cable in the kit as well?

That's a really good question.

There are two options here I could do if you want an included TRRS. I can include a very cheap and short TRRS. I could possibly have an option where you specify color and design of your TRRS and ask Nillpo on twitter if he wants to custom build them. That will add about $30 onto the price. They will include the gold ends shown, inside color, outside color, and a heatshrink color. Let me ask Nillpo about it.

Yes, nice custom trss cable as an optional purchase with the kit sounds good. I’ll be copping for that!

Is the non-rgb one has no oled screens? It’s not listed in the spec list...

The non-rgb version has no OLED. However, both will now have an acrylic cover over the pro micro areas. The rev1 pcbs have been ordered and their on the way. I'll set the group buy date after a final version has been assembled. Let's do this!

I’m excited for this... can you also publish instructions on how to put it together and flash it. This is not my first through hole soldering keyboard project but I don’t feel comfortable doing it if I don’t have instructions.

Title: Re: [IC] Slice, an Alice Split 60 QMK Cleared
Post by: 2Moons on Fri, 27 March 2020, 02:22:06
QMK has cleared. Website has finished. Build guide for both versions has been added. Thanks for waiting.

Other thoughts:
QMK keymap will be needed for configurator.
QMK split left space will need to be updated.

Notes:

Default is MASTER_LEFT but EE_HANDS will allow both usbs to function. To use EE_HANDS you'll need to use the QMK command line.

Questions: Should I remove the "Slice" cursive on the front of both sides?

Website will open for pre-orders 4/1/2020.

This is probably too late to make a request but I just saw this thread and had a question. Is there a reason why you did not have the TRRS Jack's facing upwards? With them on the side, the board cannot be put together. Excited for the preorder!

Want to get my hands on it, but somewhat scared of soldering diodes. How difficult is it for someone who never done it?

This one seems like its going to be a little more difficult than usual since there are no through-holes for the diodes. There are just flat solder pads. Truth be told, this is preferred imho because it looks way cleaner, but it's still going to be a bit more difficult

Depends on how comfortable with your hands, honestly I don't think I'm all that great at soldering but this was pretty easy for me.
Flux makes things a lot easier but as long as you have tweezers and a chisel tip you should be fine.

I hope someone will eventually make a high pro case for this... like the Discipline 65. It will be so cool!

I don’t normally like low pro board but this project is so interesting so I will cop for it.
