Pretty sure Zeal is taking feedback, improving the switches and then possibly having a round two with improved switches.
That's the impression I got from previous comments from him, feel free to correct me :)

There are plenty of 65g and 67g switches in stock as far as I know. Unless 62g are the only ones you want.

The clear housing was a huge selling point of the switches.

But it appears to require some re-thinking in the plastics blend to be functional, even if the look suffers a little.

I had a 1% failure rate in my switches. Plently of others have had none. It's a function of soldering skill as well.

All 60 switches I used worked fine, and it was my first time ever soldering so I would think I would have screwed them up if a level of skill was required. Anyway, I really like the switches, they feel great  :thumb:

Soldering procedure helps; however, it does not happen with Cherry or other Gateron, at all.

I currently have 8 out of the 48 I have used for my planck. The handwiring aspect does not help with overheating of the pins. There is one switch where I went right through. There is also one which I haven't bothered to replace as it is intermittently chattering.

I used 650F on my 951sxe with a medium fat (around 4mm) chisel tip. Kester 44 63/37 0.021"/0.53mm solder. Did not have any issues with my Viper. You need to find the sweet spot where your iron is hot enough to melt the solder effectively, but not on the pins/traces for too long enough to spread the heat too far. Too low of a temp and you're heating pads/pins for too long, too hot and the pad isn't fully heated.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
THIS IS ONE REVOLUTIONARY PRODUCT
gold plated spring, clear case, smoother switch stem, is this dream?

finally have free time to browse around GH and im immediately attracted to this thread!
GJ Zeal!

I am more interested about the part of the 4 pin RGB LED option for the switch.
As I recently planned to build a board for one of my friend, and I am kind of out of touch...
Are the any current PCBs which are capable to handle these LED?

I'm definitely gonna use them for my projects!

Only Kailh/Razer (and a few domestic mainland China) keyboards support the 4pin RGB LEDs. Aftermarket DIY PCBs that support 4 pin RGB LEDs are still being developed.

cool, thanks for the tip. I'm experienced with an iron but want to make sure I don't melt any of the housings heh... I'd be very sad :P I did get 90 just in case I screw up so I'll have extras.

Suggestion for round 2, don't know if it's feasible, but ..

preinstalled SIP sockets as an option would be spectacular.

also, is every recommended part of the switch lubed or just the springs?  specifically the slider or bottom of switch housing?

I've got some stickered ergoclears that feel much smoother on bottom out.

anyone try stickering these to see if it helps with the switch wobble?

I would suggest arranging for a proxy to do switch customizations instead if you're into that.

Some people bought lube with their switches for a reason.

Stickers won't really help with the switch wobble, it's not a problem with the housing moving around, it's all in the size of slider vs the hole it's encased in. I think this was done to prevent catching, but Zeal can correct me if I'm spreading lies. If you want to decrease wobble, you'd use something to fill that space such as copper tape, as has been suggested in this thread.

Finished up soldering my zealios.  I alloted 90 switches for my 86-key orion v2 with three having a chattering issue/actuating above the tactile bump after soldering and one switch top breaking as I mentioned earlier in the thread.  Glad I just made it!

My next 90 will be reserved for the MIRA whenever it decides to happen.

You got a lower percentage of chattering units than others, did you have some special care while soldering?

Yep.  I kept up with the thread and was hoping that by keeping the time my soldering iron made contact with the pin and joint to an absolute minimum it would cut down on the chances of any "melting".  The switches that did have issues had some deformation at the base where the pins protrude.  Obviously with the switches that didn't have any issues I can't say because those weren't pulled.

I also finished soldering my switches tonight. Had only 1 switch that just didn't work, but it wasn't the activation above bump issue or the chattering issue that folks have been talking about. It just didn't register anything at all.

No special care taken on the soldering, mostly out of inexperience - I learned to solder literally this morning so I don't think it was probably especially well done. I also had to desolder about 6 switches because of my messups, and none of those switches ended up having issues either. I used a Weller WTS100 at max heat. Probably just got lucky with an especially problem-free batch!

My first impressions on the 67g tactile switches is generally very positive. I didn't like their feel with SA caps, but swapping over to a GMK set made the clickiness come alive. Very nice bounce to the keys - feels really crisp and enjoyable to type on. Like em even more than the ergo-clears on my GON, and that's saying something.

This is very interesting, that makes the melting theory a little bit weaker.

Could this may be related with the weight of the caps?

I also finished soldering my switches tonight. Had only 1 switch that just didn't work, but it wasn't the activation above bump issue or the chattering issue that folks have been talking about. It just didn't register anything at all.

No special care taken on the soldering, mostly out of inexperience - I learned to solder literally this morning so I don't think it was probably especially well done. I also had to desolder about 6 switches because of my messups, and none of those switches ended up having issues either. I used a Weller WTS100 at max heat. Probably just got lucky with an especially problem-free batch!

This is very interesting, that makes the melting theory a little bit weaker.

Could this may be related with the weight of the caps?

Re: the heat thing: sounds right. I mean, I don't know if my iron was that hot, even at max heat - it's one of the lower-end Weller and the less-than-max settings were barely melting the solder (standard 60/40 rosin). I dunno, maybe the solder job is better than I think, but I doubt it. It does seem weird to me that something like heat transfer / melting point of the switch case bottom would be inconsistent set-to-set - since it's a property of the material seems like that wouldn't change much. But I'm far from an expert on the materials side of things.

Re: the feel of SA: I think it's partly the key weight and partly the fact that these seem to have just a bit more side-to-side travel than standard Cherry MX. I haven't had Gateron before so not sure how they compare. But I felt like keys were traveling in not-purely-up-and-down directions a bit more often than I'm used to, and that's a lot more noticeable / unpleasant with the taller SA keys.

I will say that after slightly more extended use tonight, I'm really starting to love the clear housing, especially w/ having these on a WKL board with RGB bottom LEDs. It's a nice subtle glow around the key bottoms that almost completely eliminates the urge for in-switch LEDs for me, at least in this build. I do hope we eventually see some custom PCBs allowing for in-switch RGB to take advantage of that neat future-proofing of the Zealios.

I really do hope that when I get my SA keycaps that my 67g switches feel ok  :-X
I also need to order a pcb for my ergodox already so I can test these switches  :thumb:

It sounds like the issue is the side-to-side travel, I'd try out Oobly's copper tape mod if I were you.

I got mine today. Really smooth. Smoother than my lubed Cherry Clear sliders in Gateron housings. :)

This will be my first mech, so I doubt I'll even notice a problem, but I'll try that if I do have a problem  :thumb:

Just to chime in I've soldered 2x 104 key boards already with 65g zealios and 1 switch do a double entry 50% of the time.  I use a entry level soldering gun and it even leaves burn marks on the pcb, I think it runs too hot (but I can't configure it).

Btw just finished my doing my Leopold fc900 with 65g lubed zealios with latex & trampoline mod, it is silent as ****.  Maybe the quietest mech in the galaxy? (it also has noise dampening foam on the inside).

65g seems perfect for a work board, I'm going to put 62g into my starcraft ii board (octagon) and I'm pretty sure 67g is too heavy for me.

I tried my hand at key hitter for about 10 minutes and I only had one non-reproducible issue with a single switch.

Any whoozle, to echo Zeal's sound test these switches are super quiet. Even though I type way harder than Zeal (from what I can tell, in the video), I got similar results in my sound test:

Fantastic.

So I'm pretty confident I found a very painless fix for the key chattering issue. You need to take a flat jewelers screwdriver and ever-so-lightly bend the inner-most contact toward the center post of the housing. When you are tweaking the contact, you just need to give it 3 or 4 light pushes in the direction of the center post. You should NOT feel like you're bending anything and it should NOT look like you've bent it once you're done if you did it right. The tolerances here are incredibly tight so you just need a very fine adjustment and that should fix it. I was able to fix all 12 of the chattering switches on my Phantom doing this and I didn't have to solder/desolder a single thing. From my testing this does not alter the feel or performance of the switch in any way other than fixing the chattering and early actuation.

I drew a very crude diagram to try to help explain my technique. Basically you take the contact highlighted in blue and lightly nudge it a couple of times towards the center post of the housing in red.

Thank you very much for the suggestion for fixing the chattering issue bro. Do you have a success rate for the mod?
