Topre switches on different 'boards.

I had a HHKB an sold it :( and bought a 86u that was listed with 35g pinkies. It turned up with 30g pinkies and it felt mushy and crap so I have rma'd it ( don't feel bad because I rang them up to confirm it was 35g not 30g and they confirmed it was 35g. All they had to do was check the bloody box).
So now I have 2 options, get a 45g 88ub or import a HHKB as I loved the feel of that.
I'm not too bothered about the layout but I want the bouncy feel of the HHKB, will I get that with a 45g 88ub? The price difference is 50gbp that I would be willing to pay for the HHKB if it was the only way I could get that feeling.
Any advice guys?

Out of curiosity, why did you sell the HHKB?

Because the grass is greener on the other side, but seems like this is not the case.

There is more to a keyfeel than weight.

Some people already told you not to sell it :boink:

I don't have my HHKB Pro JP here yet so I can't compare my Realforce 87UW Uniform 45g with it. The only thing I can say for now is that the Uniform 45g doesn't feel mushy.

By the way as Cactux says the key profile at least for me is more important than weight. Topre keys have a fantastic profile as the Cherry ones do too.

I have sold quite a few boards in my time here and never missed one as much as I am missing the HHKB, don't make it worse :(

How do you like the SP PBT key profile compared to Cherry and Topre?

Here's some real trivia.  Topre style rubber domes were used in Fujitsu keyboards long ago.

If you are impressed that I know this vote for me here:

It's just a simple rubber sheet without the springs and plunger mechanism

I will try to explain myself. If you compare them side by side you will see that the key profile is pretty much the same but there's a main difference between Topre keycaps and the ones made by Signature Plastics that make them a bit taller than the Cherry MX compatible ones:

If you obviate this step when putting side by side each keycap you will notice that the SP PBT key is almost equal to the PBT Topre one. Will try to take my own pictures this weekend.

EDIT: Here go some pictures( not the best).
