Hello everyone! Pandora is a premium, 60% full-isolation gasket mounted keyboard which uses USB-C, has a dedicated USB pass-through and a rear mounted rotary encoder. It features laser engraving, exotic PVD coated metals or polycarbonate, a hefty weight, and a beautiful curved side profile. The sides feature hollow winglets to shine RGB down onto your desk, and the 9.5° typing angle gives you a very unique typing experience. There are many different plate options to ensure you get the sound and feel you want. As a final touch, each board will come with a large micro-fiber cleaning cloth, and a premium USB-C cable. After a long interest check and 3 prototypes, the Pandora 60% GB is here.

That makes me really happy, but I want everyone to understand that they need to be careful with this board because its complicated, limited, and not cheap. Its not a Taobao board you can just mess around with until it breaks and buy a replacement part off mech market. This is a limited preorder.
If anyone here truly thought that disclaimer was condescending, you absolutely missed the point of it, and I invite you to hop on the #help channel of many mechanical discords and see the questions first time builders are asking. Thats why the disclaimer was written. This board is available to everyone, and as such, its complexity needs to be addressed.

There are the 2 party paint boards and there are "Mix and Match". For mix and match, are you choosing from the same colors as the regular GB, but you have the opportunity to mix and match the top, bottom, knob, weight...etc.? Does Special Edition open up any new colors or materials?
Are the special edition and regular edition boards all going on sale at the same time?

Don't be sorry dude, glad you asked. Special edition lets you mix all available parts, not just top and bottom, plus allows you to pick a few more options and customize your badge. I will send you a google form after purchase where you can pick everything, and you get a hotswap pcb too. And they go on sale at the same time yes.

I know this might be a bit annoying Koob but is it possible to get a bit of weight breakdown of things like the SS plate by themselves/Cases by themselves ect so we can see what each config would be like in terms of how heavy the board would be?

To be fair, you describe your board in unambiguously elitist terms, so I find it a bit troubling that you're also taking the mantle of protector and educator of newcomers for yourself. I spend lots of time on various discords answering questions where I feel I can help, and being just a couple years into this world myself I think I have a good sense what parts of this hobby are confusing to newcomers. What stands out most for me among newcomers is that they are often intimidated by things that are not (or should not be) intimidating. I don't doubt that you've also done lots of educating of newcomers in your time, but this GB is not one of those times.
The trouble with your "disclaimer" is that in an effort to reinforce the explicitly elitist marketing narrative, you are trying to give those same newcomers the impression that there is something unusually difficult and complex about this board. There isn't. Instead you're just contributing to the intimidation factor faced by newcomers.
Following your logic, the NK65 Entry should also have some kind of disclaimer for beginners, because it involves understanding how to "program a custom board" (is that what we're calling using VIA now?), "properly using a hotswap PCB" (does the hotswap on your PCB require some special pushing technique?), and "not over-tightening polycarbonate parts" (just in case beginners aren't sufficiently intimidated, they should be scared when using a screwdriver). Don't even get me started on "picking the right materials and combinations", as if there are wrong combinations for beginners to avoid. If there are actual unique complexities about this board then I stand to be corrected, but nothing apparent from the GB or IC.
It's all well and good to market your board with a particular "luxury" angle - I actually think it's well done in your case and I have no doubt your board will be well received. But you can do so without reinforcing silly myths about how certain aspects of this hobby are beyond the reach of mere beginners. I stand by the condescending description - it's condescending not just to the intelligence of the average beginner, but also to all the other boards out there with basically the same features and no "disclaimers" warning about their special complexity. Now that I think about it, it may be intentional, sort of like how the salesperson at Saks asks me if I'm lost when I go in to browse the shoe selection.

I would define this as slightly more complex than a normal keyboard being sold. I agree that plugging in 4 JST connectors is easy but then again it may be a surprise for some. It is just a disclaimer to encourage anyone wanting to purchase the board that there are some unique components and to do your research before buying.

Also got ~95 USD in shipping (Sweden). Really hoping it's not correct. Shipping + customs is going to be close to (if not over) 300 USD, price of a decent mid-tier board :confused:

Sites been taking a tiny amount of orders for friends and family ~10. Shopify has a reserve feature but apparently it doesn't work if you can check out. But I password protected the site for now lol.
As for shipping, imagine an 8lb large box, and then tack on insurance up to $800 for each order. It adds up a lot.

I ended up securing an E-white standard layout with SS accents/weight, and the shipping was insane for me as well. I live in the USA and it was still $43 :eek:
Isn't this a typical shipping cost for an insured 10lb box? I just sent something a couple weeks ago of a similar weight and it cost about that much.
Anyways I got a SE, stoked.

Y'all probably have a daily cap on your debit/credit cards. You can get rid of that issue by calling your bank and having it increased. Most banks keep it to 750-1,500 a day cause of thieves.

Hey fellas! Couple of things. If you are more comfortable buying a kit first and then adding the stuff second, be my guest. But it will make it very hard for me to organize orders that way!
Sites been taking a tiny amount of orders for friends and family ~10. Shopify has a reserve feature but apparently it doesn't work if you can check out. But I password protected the site for now lol.
As for shipping, imagine an 8lb large box, and then tack on insurance up to $800 for each order. It adds up a lot.

Got a standard ansi black with stainless trim, stainless steel plate, white ansi pcb with an extra aluminum plate and hotswap PCB. I really, really liked all the polycarb colors and it was causing OCD. Maybe if there is a next time.
I look forward to a day hopefully between January through May.

Koobaczech, any way I can use Paypal? I've tried my own card + my brothers now and both just fails. Tried using Apple Pay and Google Pay, same thing. There's for sure money on the card and I called the bank and there's no limit (only if you withdraw cash).Link PayPal to Google play. It's how I did it.

Hi, Had a strange one, I ordered the SE edition and got an email confirmation., however I then received a txt from my bank to say the transaction to say the payment has been declined so not sure if my orders going to get cancelled or not, is there anyway I can check the order to make sure its ok, I did receive a confirmation of the order so not sure?
Your order probably didn't go through. Shopify doesn't detect problems.

As this board was marketed to the 1%, only the 1% have joined :cool:
I think that were all used to the same typical GB's that feature the same designs, get botted and run for seconds. This buy was definitely not that, and I built it up like that as well from the start. Back in the day, the keyboard group buys that I was around used to run for months, and while most people would attribute it to something like there being less people in the community, I'd like to think that its because the designs were more unique back then and not appealed to the masses. I said it many times in my IC that I expected the buy to be relaxed and not frantic haha!
I'm more than appreciative that everyone had a chance to join, pick out things comfortably, and enjoy a relaxed well put together drop. MOQ+ was hit in a day, and I'm giving the rest a chance to join before locking it up!
In the following days I will work on a Discord as well! :]
HOWEVER, GB will be locked by MONDAY, and I will work on organizing and placing orders with the appropriate manus shortly after!

He killed bots buying for people while they were at work, etc. I am surprised it is still open as well, but it is fall in the middle of a pandemic. I wish I had enough money to have purchased two now. I am starting to think I may have preferred that polycarbonate. I technically like a few colors only of a product, but I really liked all of them on this buy. They were all well chosen.

Hey Rex! While I have no idea, I can only assume that any normal cable used by us enthusiasts should be fine. The hub is low consumption, there are only 12 RGB leds on the pcb, and no top leds. So not bad overall :eek:
Nice, the hub being power hungry was my main "concern".

Mix and Match is so that you don't need to adhere to my kit choices and can do anything you want! So honestly, your opinion matters more than mine in this situation.
In terms of fitment, anything works.
And an example of what I would use Mix and Match for is right here. Id make the badge a different accent than the mid and encoder, and a brass weight

Well, hopefully they will pass it through since the manufacturer is lined up and it is ridiculous to think someone could fund this type of preproduction up front who isn't a much larger business aiming at lower quality.

Just a small FYI, I have it listed under my FAQ page that each board will ship in its own package, as I have made custom packaging and other arrangements. This only affected about 10 people, but if anyone bought more than one Pandora, I have recalculated shipping and invoiced you with the new total shipping amount minus what you have already paid.
Really sorry to tack on that little extra cost, but I cant do anything about it except physically bundle orders come fulfilment time. And I'm looking into that. If that happens ill refund the double shipping.
Its not a scam or anything so don't think that if you see my email come in asking you to pay an extra $30 haha. Thanks!

Hey Koob, can we get a quick text list of the extra options (and prices if possible)? I was planning on getting extra pcbs (possibly both hotswap and solder) as well as alternative plates in diff materials.
And any idea of how much time we have to pm you these extras to add on to our orders? Is it like a week ... month maybe to do this?

The majority of updates have in fact moved over to discord, but I am going to lay it all out here right now!
Arrived
All of the polycarbonate plates have arrived and I cleaned and sorted them.
All of the FR4 plates have arrived and have been sorted.
All of the Titanium plates have arrived and been sent off to be anodized in crazy colors here in the USA.
All of the Gaskets, PCB foam and Plate foam have arrived.
Some MISC parts have arrived, like bumpon feet, microfiber cloths and diffusers.
Pandoras exterior shipping boxes have arrived and are unfolded, waiting for fulfillment.
Waiting on the following
Pandora Boxes have been paid for and are currently being made.
PCBs are currently being made in matte black.
Case parts have begun production and are currently being made.
Gold hardware has been ordered.
Bear Cables have been ordered and he has ordered parts for them.
So all in all, things are moving along pretty well! I am way more active in Discord as a lot of people asked me to make one, and its a more lively platform than a forum. Please do check in there for photos and the occasional update! But I always monitor this thread as well :] Here are some misc photos of production stuff!

PCBs are done and have shipped out via DHL. Will have them in next week and have photos of them all!
Pandora boxes have shipped out as well! Those are coming by sea, a bit slower (a months time)
JST4 cable connecters are in house now, as well as some misc packaging
Waiting on cases, bear cables, and have to test the pcbs when they arrive, make sure they aren't messed up (pray)

Sorry if a stupid question since I haven't used QMK for anything except basic key layout mapping but would it be feasible to use the rotary encoder to control lighting effects on the board? e.g. push backlight on/off, rotate for brightness

As of April 18 when I last talked to the manu, CNC was supposed to be done near ends of April, and next would come finishing and anodizing and such! Slow and steady, nothing new! Thank you for the patience with this GB everyone. As I hear, I'll update. Took the whole Sat off to answer dms, update the website, reply to emails and just tidy up loose ends, plus make this post :]

First off, all orders come with a premium hand made color matched cable. Made by BearCableCo, the cables have finally finished (phew) and are supposed to arrive tomorrow to me in a 28lb box. Ty so much for the cables Bear!

Next, the manu. They have been working non stop on our group buy order. They tell me that our order was one of the most complex they have ever received with the amount of plates, colors, finishes, materials, layouts, laser engravings, customizations and overall options. Some very discord active community members in the GB reached out to me and said it was a bit suspicious that things were taking this long, so I reached out to the manu and was assured its just the complexity and that other GB's did not take priority over ours. To that extent, here are some finished orders!

As for the rest of the orders:
-ALL CNC is finished
-Some anodization is finished
-Some plates are done too (alu and anodized)
-ALL Polycarbonate parts are awaiting dyeing, its just starting. To directly quote my rep, "PC dyeing requires the completion of one color by one color, so we still need to wait. It is currently in progress"
-Brass and Stainless Steel blasting and polishing is just starting
-Pom plates awaiting blasting (idk why but not gonna question it)
To directly quote my rep about shipping ETA,
"To be honest it's hard to say the shipping date. We have thousands of sets of a project waiting to be completed too. Our current production is facing great pressure and the lead time is seriously delayed, so our company has formulated some new rules. For projects with less than 50 units, we have to choose these colors we already have as much as possible. Now we are expediting the previous gb project, Pandora is also one of the projects. Pandora is one of the most important of our many projects, we are working hard"
I talk with the manu every night If I can about future projects, and ask for updates every two weeks. That said thank you so much for the patience ladies and gents. I've taken care of address changes, order swaps and anything else I can in the time past. Any new info that is relevant will be passed on here and on the Discord. There is still a lot of work ahead, but things have not crashed yet so fingers crossed that time is our biggest problem. Cheers!

Hey everyone. There are around 46 boxes of Pandora keyboards, and customs has recently released 1/4th of the shipment (11 boxes) and they delivered to me yesterday (12/08/21). Lots of beautiful Pandoras which I will be opening, checking and labeling for further packaging every day.
All the CORNER BADGES, ENCODER KNOBS and PLATES are in a separate box somewhere, but not here. Alas, I cannot send them out without a badge or knob or plate. Once those arrive, I will separately pack them alongside your order.
It might be a day or a month until further parts of our shipment are released from customs and mailed to me! But they are being released and I am paying for the handling as it happens.
The only remaining thing to arrive SEPERATE from the cases are EVA cases which I ordered a little later down the line. Those are also en route from Asia and have to do the tango as well.
I will be traveling near the end of December and not be present for any keyboard related matters. If any shipments are arriving at that time I will try to “HOLD” until I arrive a week later back home.

You are responsible for tracking your order once its out the door. Be on top of your order and make sure it goes where it needs to and open a claim if you think its lost or stolen or whatever. I absolutely cannot keep tabs on all the shipments after I drop them off at the post office.

…he did ask for my SSN though for shipping, not sure what’s up with that…
