Title: What is this case?
Post by: jcoffin1981 on Sat, 09 October 2021, 21:38:17
I'm looking to purchase a new case- something like this.  Anyone know what this is?  I want to build a new board 60-65% and can't find a case that I want.  Really it just has to have a low or no tilt angle, accomodate a wide variety of pcb's, not be floating key style, and have a little bit of a bezel like this.

Pretty rare in to not see any tilt in a keyboard nowadays in the community but still can find some on ebay or aliexpress. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32540926035.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.435885e3nuhEGt&algo_pvid=a8a398eb-a5a1-467f-905b-f8c25db67b9c&algo_exp_id=a8a398eb-a5a1-467f-905b-f8c25db67b9c-10&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22sku_id%22%3A%2266080044433%22%7D (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32540926035.html?spm=a2g0o.productlist.0.0.435885e3nuhEGt&algo_pvid=a8a398eb-a5a1-467f-905b-f8c25db67b9c&algo_exp_id=a8a398eb-a5a1-467f-905b-f8c25db67b9c-10&pdp_ext_f=%7B%22sku_id%22%3A%2266080044433%22%7D)

accomodate a wide variety of pcb's.

There are no standards for keyboard pcbs.
The 60% is the closest we have to a standard of any sort and that's only because of how it came about, it's the exception, not the rule. Between pcb size, mounting USB port, it's pretty much no rules.

More importantly, why does it really even matter? I mean it sounds nice, one case for any pcb, but you can really only use one pcb at a time anyhow and they rarely go bad. And if you aren't changing form factor why are you swapping pcbs? Different switches?  Honestly, I find swapping all switches a bit of a chore, probably why you want multiple pcbs but how many different switches would you actually run on a regular basis anyhow? If this really is your goal, either buy a bunch of decent, cheap boards, find a pcb you like and can find cheap and easy, then get a case made to fit, or make a pcb to fit a case you like and buy a bunch of them.
