VERY clean. I love this look. Answer may be 'no'... but any chance of a poly or acrylic bottom with some underglow? Would LOVE to see that.

Quick question, how can I configure the rotary encoder for volume or something else?

The function of the encoder and keys can be customised using QMK.

Thanks! :D

would you consider adding regular full size usb ports instead of usb c? probably more useful for things like usb drives and some such.

I agree with this actually. Having just usb-c means I'm attaching a dongle to this and it's getting ugly. Where alternatively this could be a pretty awesome usb-a hub. Many peripherals still end in usb-a. And most keyboard cables do as well (because besides MacBooks most PCs are still usb-c limited).
I may still consider this purely for it's macropad capabilities. But at that point I'd say cut the extra ports and save me some money. No ports or usb-a ports def makes the most sense.
-
Would like one without the extra ports, takes away from the minimalism
-
Like the extra ports as it doubles as a hub. very interested in see this come to market.

No, the formatting doesn't work. We tried posting but the text either the text is really small with no paragraphs or really large with no paragraphs. This has been happening a lot recently, we don't know why.

No, sorry this is because we want the product to be future-proof. We also have other plans etc. that this macro pad would work well with. We are looking at offering short USB-C to A cables as an optional extra.
-
Love the idea. Definitely interested.
For the USB hub, does it matter which one will be the "master" output port to your computer and which ones will be for your devices?
-
Would love to pick this up!

Yeah, I used to understand this, back when i thought USB-C was right around the corner on peripherals, but it's not, and doesn't look like it's going to be, for a while. By then you'll probably have R2/R3 of this coming out. LoL.
That said, with addon adapters I may still be interested, but it'll mess with the look for sure. Will follow along though.

+1 would also prefer usb-a passthrough instead.
-
Having one USB-A would be nice. Most of my stuff is not USB-C yet.
-
Super in for this!
-
Is there room for a weight inside? I'd be a bit concerned about cables pulling the back down, lifting the front. A port in front might be nice.
Looking like a nifty little pad!
-
🤤 my god that's beautiful

usb c to a adapters i think are a better idea than short cables
i was also wondering if the pass through ports are gonna be usb 3.0 or usb 3.1?

Looks nice.
What rotary encoder does it use? Is it the EC11 or something else?
-
This looks great. USB-C hub is a great idea.
-
Looks brilliant, will be keeping a close eye.

This looks clean. Looking forward to it.

Macropads usually never catch my attention but this one might just change that. Love this!

Usb c, usb a, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Would that be overkill?

Even this I like better. Usbc for source, 2 stacked usb a, and headphone would be endgame. Lol

First macropad I've audibly said woah for. Looks awesome and definitely interested in this!

As someone who is all in on USB-C, I love the hub. It’s super frustrating when a peripheral takes up a USB-C port and doesn’t add one.

-
I mean sure. Add one. But where are all these usb-c mice, keyboards and thumb drives everyone is using? I mean the only common usb-c to usb-c/hardwire cables I ever see now are for phone charging.
-
I need this in my life. I’ll work hard to get one.
-
I dig it, would just prefer to see USB-A ports, since all my cables are USB-A to micro/C
-
This thing looks beautiful. With the proper resistance on the dial it could be glorious.
Any info on charging speeds and data bandwidth with these USB-C pass-throughs?
Is there any way to machine the USB-C port holes in the back to better fit the ports? Right now it looks like they were meant for USB-A, with a lot of space around the ports.
Usb c, usb a, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Would that be overkill?
That would require putting a DAC into this thing, which is a whole new area of expertise.

Could just do a passthrough, but then you've still got to worry about noise and you've added another host cable.

Yeah power is more limited with C2.0 but I've never seen issues with file transfer in my testing of C2.0 to C2.0 cables.
-
Been looking for a solid macro pad for awhile. One with a rotary encoder would be great!
-
I am pro USB-C. It's a more future-proof connector. Plus the cost of buying a few USB-A to USB-C cables pales in comparison to a lot of the boards some of us own anyway.
-
Looks cool. I'm in for one when the time comes. I was looking for a device with 5 keys and a volume knob just for media controls. But this will work awesome too.
-
Looks really cool and would love to use it as a media switch pad. It would be amazing if you could scrub through premiere pro or after effects with it.
-
I'm in.
-
This is quite interesting, I was looking at the Keebwerk Nano but the hub possibilities in this one interest me plus I do prefer a knob to a slider.
-
When does GB start? I'm waiting desperately.
-
Clean looking. Keeping it all USB C is a great start.
-
This looks really cool. I have one question: What does the hole on the knob do?
-

I assume it's where you screw it in, so that it doesn't fall off.
-
Very clean looking, love the look!
Hope to see it on GB soon :)
-
Definitely interested! Really like the fact that it's only usb-c.

Definitely interested! Really like the fact that it's only usb-c.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they are changing that and only the central port is USB C, with the outside ports changing to USB A.
There is a message in their Discord for this one that says:
"Whilst it was our initial goal to use USB-C 3.1 we would also like to launch the group buy sooner rather than later and have decided to switch to USB-A 2.0. "
And:
"Will all of the ports be changing to USB-A 2.0? The central port will remain as USB-C 2.0, only the port on the left and right are changing."

tbh I actually like that a lot more with the outside ports being normal usb-a. with usb-c you would have to buy all new c-to-c cables.

I also agree with this. Would make it pretty easy to use as a charging station. I do wonder if you could use it as a usb hub though, for plugging in usb drives and such.
-
This has me interested. I'd love to know if the macropad will be sufficiently weighted so that having a couple USB cables plugged won't make it move around.
-
Looks good. Are you planning for different colors? This won't match my setup. Maybe some cream/gray color?
-
Could be a nice addition to a desk. Interested.

Awww... that's a downer. I would much prefer USB C. USB A would be too hideous looking.
-
Absolutely love everything about this! Checking off every aspect of a macro-pad that i'm after, i'm 100% hopping on board!
Looking forward to hearing more on this :)

Excited for this! Any timeline for when GB will happen?
-
Definitely on board if it means I can have my keeb. mouse, and macropad connected via 1 port!
-
Why buy a hub when you could buy a macropad knobby hub? Serious question.
-
any new updates on this?

This has been too long...
-
Any updates on this? I really love the simplistic design.

On their discord capsunlocked has said the GB will start August 1st.

They just announced it has been delayed. No word yet to when.

We are currently in the process of finalising the CU7 design, but we are considering making the following change and wanted to hear your feedback on the decision.
This change is not 100% confirmed.
C
hange:
1) Changing the interface from 2x USB-A and 1 USB-C to 2xUSB-A (removal of USB-C).
Reasoning:
We are considering making this change because keeping all 3 ports is creating several issues.
Firstly, the ports will sit flush with the case and the difference between the USB-C and USB-A ports is causing them to not be aligned and therefore is not visually pleasing.
Secondly the base plate screws have moved to under the rubber feet but as the PCB is so busy it is proving difficult to place the standoffs going through the case without coming into contact with other components.
Other than this the CU7 is almost complete and we are looking to move forward as soon as a decision on the design has been made. We want to know how this proposed change would impact your decision to join the group buy.

Personal opinion: I would much prefer one USB-C port over two USB-A. Having two USB-A ports on the back means that the cable going to the host device will be off-centre which may be jarring if there's nothing else plugged in to the other USB-A.

I would buy with any ports on it. The sooner the better :)
-
This looks very neutral. I would love to see this go into production. Why are there two extra USB type A ports?
-
does the knob wobble at all, or strongly centrered

From the October 2020 update:
CU7
We have returned to the previous interface of 2xUSB-A and 1xUSB-C.
We aim to release more product and group buy information this month!
Super excited to find out more, hoping different colour options will be available!
-
[attachimg=1]
It's official, the CU7 GB starts on 5th Dec and will be available from £59.99 (inc VAT)!
- USB-A ports were removed due to issues with power draw and so only 1xUXB-C remains.
- Case is only available in black, PCB is matte black.
