think they're all pretty good choices. it seems like in the real world the efficacy rates are a little lower than in the testing so it seems that pfizer and moderna provide even more thorough protection. we're pretty lucky to have a choice of top tier vaccines though. i ended up getting a moderna

Moderna.  Otherwise than the second shot kicking my butt, no complaints.

My job is a petri dish and ever since the vaccine was offered, the percent of ill staff went from 10% to almost zero.

I got Pfizer and was pleased with it. I had no ill effect from the first one, and a bit of discomfort from the second one. I would describe it as the equivalent of a cold or mild hangover for a couple of days. The arm was a bit sore when touched for a few days.

Pfizer here.   No side effects thankfully.   The way I see it, there may be a risk of still getting covid, but hopefully it is super mild due to the vaccine knocking it down.  I know people who have dealt with full on covid.   It is not nice.   Don't wish that crap on anyone, even my enemies.

I'm having second shot in two days, will se how it goes.

If the second shot gives you a bigger reaction, isn't it an indication that the first shot worked correctly ?

Not exactly.

I know several people who came down with COVID between their first and second shots.

Most people don't get much of a choice and honestly, get what you can as soon as you can.
Despite the efficacy rates, which are highly flawed, all are better than nothing and all probably work pretty equally well.

Typically...
First shot is a mild, unless you've had Covid, then it will feel like a second shot does to most people.
Second shot will be worse.
For anyone thinking screw the second shot because the first sucked, however bad the first one was, Covid is worse. Imagine that for 1-2 weeks, and hopefully without any lingering effects, which is almost guaranteed (just not talked about). The shot sucks, Covid is worse, get the shot.

Also, something they aren't telling people is the milder symptoms and how long they can last.
Weird dreams, started with Covid and lasted 6 months, got the shot, they came back, lasted week and a half
Weird random aches and pains or itching - Lasted a few weeks, came back after the first and second shot.
Unable to sleep, sleep pattern wrecked - Lasted a few weeks, came back after the first and second shot.
Queazy stomach, started just after Covid and lasted 5 months, came back a few days after shot, went away days before second shot. Returned for second shot.

And this was in multiple mild cases of people I know, including myself and a nurse, who herself wasn't even aware of this until we started talking about it.

BUT WHAT IF,  the pharmacists are sneaking out the viles to be sold on the black market, and all Tp4 got was saline ?   It's not like walgreens pays /treats employees well.

I'm either going w/ Pfizer or J&J, would prefer J&J since I want to be one and done - but over-all the Pfizer appears to be the good as well (even with a dual stage shot).   But I will be waiting to get it so I can see how the initial test subjects faired with the shots.

It's normal, it will be sore for a day or two, doesn't matter how well the injection was made it messes with the muscle there.

Be prepared to do pretty much nothing tonight and tomorrow.
Also get something for fever and pain, you may get lucky and not need it this time but you more than likely will for round 2.

I had a fever over 100, tired, headache, cold symptoms on the 3rd and 4th day after my 2nd shot. Day 4 I was ill all day, actual sickness. Woke up on the 5th day after shot and felt amazing. So be aware you could be fine right after, then days later get quite sick.
1st shot I just got a sore arm

i read sometimes people accidentally inject into the fat instead of the muscle, and that ends up hurting more.

but the pain seems pretty normal. got my 2nd last week. my arm hurt for three days, and i felt like poop overall for the first two.

all better now.

Not gettn' sick feelings on this first shot, but like sniping said, it's like a really bad workout soreness.

That said, does anyone understand if them t-cells gon' destroy deltoid muscles cuz they is using them to manufacture the spike protein ? (unless Tp4 is not understanding the diagram.. )

22hrs from installation now, Tp4 arm still @ sore, but it hasn't exceeded max tolerance. Pain lvl @ steady state. Quak3 scores still down.

Is it m0ar effective if it's the same arm, because them mrna already once hijacked dat muscle cells to spawn spike proteins ?

Got a text today telling me to book an appointment as I'm now old enough (by 12 days) so went on the website and I can get my first dose next Friday 2.5 miles away which is fine, but the nearest option for the second is 40 miles away in a place I've never heard of.  The website is so good that I'm not even sure if the first appointment is finalised without getting to the end but I'm guessing not.

That leaves me willing but unable.  No option as to what you get either, unless that's on page 30...
Title: Re: which vaccine y'allget'n've'got'n
Post by: fohat.digs on Wed, 19 May 2021, 14:49:40
Of course it is different here, but when I walked in and filled out the forms for my first shot they asked me whether I wanted to schedule the 2nd one there, same place, 3 weeks later. If so, there would be no additional paperwork, so I gladly agreed. Easy-peasy.
Title: Re: which vaccine y'allget'n've'got'n
Post by: suicidal_orange on Thu, 20 May 2021, 01:15:01
That sounds great fohat.  The website is one question per page, the ones I remember are: NHS number, date of birth, postcode (as an extra ID check I assume as this is on record), disability check, pick a place, pick a date AM or PM, pick an hour, pick a 10 minute slot within the hour, appointment 'confirmation', would you like the second shot at the same place yes/no... so annoying, probably designed for phones.

Apparently if you call them you can get appointments in different places, or you can go through your doctor and they have different places again - not sure what the National in NHS means for when even within a town there is no coordination but that may be a good thing.
Title: Re: which vaccine y'allget'n've'got'n
Post by: fohat.digs on Thu, 20 May 2021, 07:50:12
Over here, the big problem was just getting the appointment. When I became eligible (because I am old but not ancient) I waited a bit because I am healthy and wanted to let the most desperate ones in first.

Since I live in an urban area, when I did go online to find an appointment, all slots in nearby clinics were still taken for several weeks out. But my cousin suggested that I look around "out in the country" where most people are "red" (interesting that "red" refers to Republicans these days rather than communists, but logical). A clinic in a small town in an adjacent county, 18 miles from where I live, had open appointments less than 48 hours later.

The online appointment process was minimal and most of the details were filled out when I was there in person.

Now that you mention it, there's still some tightness left in deltoid muscle, not pain, just slight tightness, and if you squish it, it feels kind of something like itchy.

They is say fizer 90% effective against india variant.   buyer's remorse, should'a waited for m0ar reviews ? hahahahahhajkjkjkjk.

as far as i know the pfizer should be the same type of vaccine as the moderna, so i'd expect them to have similar effectiveness towards certain variants.

Just found out I can get the Oxford/Astrozenica by going to boots after 4:30 as they have to use the day's allowance and always have some left.  A dead arm for lots of laziness sounds like a pretty good trade?

I've been at work and on public transport throughout this mess so chances are I already had it and if I have then natural selection has decided I'm fit to live, had it not the world would not notice the end of my insignificant existance. You have to have something to live for to lose your peace of mind, that's not a problem I have.

There was talk of restricting people who don't get shots though, and I'm not having that so must get one.

Maybe you can also buy new boots while you're there.
They sell make up, perfume, and electric razors and toothbrushes, they have an optician and hearing tests, they have a pharmacy, you can buy pre-packed sandwhiches and the like and they also print photos but surprisingly the only boots in Boots would be for babies and I'm not even sure they have them.  The company must have been named by someone with a strange sense of humor :p

Funny enough I didn't get any symptoms from the second shot despite all my friends getting sick or having to be in bed.  it was perfectly like normal.
The first shot was worse than the second one because of the soreness!

I didn't have soreness from the second shot either.

As for other symptoms, only my older co-workers(50+) and parents were symptom free after the second shot.

Pfizer installed, arm feels weird.  Head was already wrong, I've felt tired with mild headache for over a month and given the heat/sun I'd be complaining of heat anyway so as long as I don't wake up tomorrow feeling like death warmed up I'm assuming symptoms are minimal.

the US's slow start

I would say that people here were quick to take advantage of the vaccine when it became available to them. Within a small number of months, the government had ensured that it was free and available to everyone with the exception of small children.

But yes, about a third of the population feels compelled to be obstreperous and refuse the vaccination, to the detriment of themselves and those around them, for a variety of reasons that are fabricated and artificial.

When I got my Pfizer shot, they asked me on the spot whether I wanted to schedule the 2nd round. I said that I would and they made an appointment for 3 weeks later (the recommended wait) at the same time in the same place. I was grateful for the convenience and the pharmacy ensured their repeat business.

Unfortunately, that required an adequate continuing supply of the drug and a manageable level of demand. Your situation probably implies a greater demand for first shots and/or inadequate supply to meet the demand.

from what i heard we had 2 possible vaccines in France, Pfizer and Modena, but Modena dropped out and did only deliver part of the order and so now we are short. that information may be inaccurate though

Preliminary examination says myocarditis (heart inflammation). Among extremely rare side effects.

They also said, Myocarditis is a symptom of REAL covid, and is often far worse, so they're saying pros outweigh the potential cons at this point.

when you read about what extent the doctor that originally said that vaccines cause autism went to prove his point, i would not really be that surprised (i don't went to mention his name because he did that for fame and money, do not want to reward that). he did nearly kill a kid and hurt quite a few more, and proved nothing in the end.

Considerable understatement there. He launched a movement that could be argued is a crime against humanity.

But the real dilemma is why (and who) is going to listen to a random goofball crackpot spouting nonsense (looking at you, Trump supporters) without legitimate verifiable evidence to back it up.

I got the Janssen shot yesterday. No side effects, except a mild headache last night and today; though, I get headaches so frequently that I don't think I can necessarily attribute it to the vaccine. Caffeine doesn't appear to cure it, so it's possible it's a side effect and not a naturally occurring headache.
