I agree.  And I think I am unanimous in that.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

The 1207 have keys mixed from 2 sets, but the Russian/German ones are easy to find on ebay.de for about 20eur, G81-3000L**RD.

Nice collection

The award for largest enter/carriage return key goes too:
Show Image

It makes me think that if you took that enter, put some wheels on it and strapped a horse to it, it would make an excellent carriage. It brings back the carriage of old times, aka the return of the carriage. Hence the name, carriage return.

You can't argue that logic.

Yes, but the programming on it is a HUGE pita, can't use Cherry tools have to use the old Cherryconf software, and you have to set some dipswitch to programing mode. If you find one make sure to have an old legacy machine, preferable with 9x and native ps/2 to program it.

These are the style boards that got me into this hobby. I love the colors on these vintage boards and keys.

I hope to expand my collection of key caps past my wyse and cherry white on black sets, to one day include awesomeness as pictured here.

I need some sweet iso sets for my Phantom and soon to be gh60 board.

Any suggestions of what to look out for, lysol?

Some combination are very hard to find, so you might have to piece something from multiple board... what language layout, modifiers size and colorways are you most interest in?

MOST interested in, I'd say something like your Commodore or Amiga colorway - coffee/brown style, but a beige DS set or something similar to my WYSE set would be cool.  1.5/1/1.5 modifiers, U.S. QWERTY although something foreign could be kinda cool.

Piecing together wouldn't be the end of the world :) I'm sure the chase is almost as fun if not more than actually owning it.

So you want US ISO? There are some older POS boards with that like the 3181 (there are different version with white/beige and also video edit version similar to the Leitch G81-3000) or 3190. For other language you could keep eye out for Olivetti with the blue on white/beige most common found in Italian. I have seen several version of Alcatel MMK in US ISO, French, Swiss... which is that grey on pearl white set. There is lot of different stuff out there, and also many non Cherry made board that have Cherry keycap.

US ISO sounds simple enough for a start.  No idea if I'll even like ISO, but I just want to build a board that looks a little different than the rest.

Wouldn't finding an Olivetti be like finding gold?

What are some of the keywords you use when scouring eBay?  I just normally do "Cherry Keyboards" "Cherry POS" and "POS Keyboard" but I'm sure that's just basic haha.

Depends where I am searching, you want to use the equivalent of keyboard (ie tastatur, tastiera, claviera, клавиатура, 键盘, etc.) ... I also often search for other brands Cherry has made boards for or use Cherry keycap like Amiga, Commodore, Apricot, Peacock, NCR, Alcatel, WEY, Olivetti, TA, Nixdorf, etc... Wow I just gave a lot of 'secrets'... though anyone could find this out anyway if they wanted to research as I have.
I have seen Olivetti G81s on ebay.it many times, but never able to get seller to ship outside Italy (not even to other EU country, wtf is wrong with them anyway?) and know no Italians to proxy. Pretty much the only reason I don't have one.

It's ok, it's far from complete list :p most of which listed I already found or generally aren't anything special, just another brand name on the casebody. I didn't and won't explain how to find the gems not using common search term and pay average of $40 per board. You will have to figure out that part.

just to say: WOW!

the shipping for these things probably cost much more than the actual items. Last month I was quoted $90 for getting a Buckling Spring to where I live, so I'm very sore that I'm priced out of all this fun.

Yes sometimes international shipping can be more than I pay for the keyboards for sure. But it's ok if I get them cheap enough and sometimes it is the only reasonable way to get certain things.

Ha, just noticed that you mentioned Il Postino.

That guy is incredibly lazy and busy living la dolce vita all the time.  :p

I also tried buying from Italians before. Italians won't sell to other countries because it will cost a lot and not to mention there's no guarantee il postino will deliver within 1 decade so most foreigners will get fed up and demand for Paypal refund.  :'(
