Been lurking around here for a while. When I looked up at my tabs in chrome and 75% of the many were GH, I realized I had to sign up! I am a tinkerer and looking to build up a custom board. I have hand soldered hundreds or thousands of PCBs, but yet a keyboard. Time to change this!

My first and only mech as an adult is a KÛL w/ Cherry MX Clears - Double shot PBT keys.

Did anyone else shutter when Apple highlighted the new "butterfly" key mechanism with ~0mm of travel.

KUL makes good keyboards, but assembling your own is another ballpark and will make for a very rewarding experience. have fun!

Does your adult experience imply that you have encountered other mechanical keyboard before becoming an adult?

KUL is great to start with - pretty much all review of it I have seen are positive.

As a kid we definitely had mechanicals. Tandy, Unicomp, and IBM. No idea the models. They became "outdated" and "incompatible" with the update of computers. I remember, in high school, bringing a box of old mechs to electronics recycling.

I also admit to throwing out a nice old NEC mechanical keyboard - one of the nicest keyboards I ever used.  Years later I found another one and more or less rejuvenated it.
