It it worth it for that price? There's a blue Selectric III in my area for $25, but not sure what I would use it for....

Nope.

These things weigh 20-30 pounds I'd say. They're awesome things though.
I own 4 all in unknown condition I'll be playing with soon.

Whoever lives close to this working one, go get it, buy a few bottles of wine, write up a novella.

IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE I'VE USED A SELECTRIC, BUT I REMEMBER THEM BEING POPULAR HERE ON GEEKHACK FOR A WHILE. $25 FOR A WORKING UNIT'S PRETTY CHEAP, SO IF ANY OF YOU ALL ARE IN LONG ISLAND, YOU SHOULD GO GRAB IT.

THE IBM SELECTRIC TYPEWRITERS ARE WHAT THE OLD MODEL M KEYBOARDS WERE ORIGINALLY BASED OFF OF, AND MANY FOLKS HAVE SAID THEY'VE GOT A BETTER FEEL TO THEM. THEY DON'T WORK WITH COMPUTERS THOUGH, SO YOU'LL BE STUCK JUST TYPING LETTERS AND PAPERS WITH 'EM.

My local goodwill had a IBM Model D for $35.   I thought about it, but th don't seem to have much resale value.
Wish I had some gif or quote for this space, but I got nothing

I use mine to print up shipping labels. The spacing is a little off to use it for filling out customs forms, but it's great for addressing. the selectric II and III feature correction tape. The selectric keycaps look like they should fit on a beam spring keyboard.
