Ducky keycaps - Translucent/Backlit/Engraved
« on: Tue, 28 July 2015, 07:06:50 »
Hi Folks,

I have come to the conclusion that i need to purchase something, i wasnt certain at first where this need came from or what it was that I was intending to purchase.

Searching through my things (or as the girlfriend calls them "toys") i came to the conclusion that I am still using the vendor stock keycaps on my ducky keyboard (Ducky Shine 3).

Unacceptable.

So i've had a look around and its really easy (as you would expect) to pick up a cap set in what ever colours/tones/finish you like - buyers choice it would seem.

However, I want to ideal keep the backlit characters if possible.

I've looked and ducky (as you would expect) sell key caps - not sure how they rate as replacements or whether they're in principle the same as i have - one question on these they sell sets that are "engraved" - is this for the back light or is this something else.

To try and set-up a marker - something akin to the Vortex PBT Double shot translucent set.

The only catch i need it to be UK (ISO) set-up.

Your thoughts and any pictures you have would be most welcome.

Thanks
H

Hi

I have some pictures of Duckys ISO/Nordic Grey/Blue PBT laser engraved keycaps set on my english Ducky Shine 3 k-board with blue LEDs. I'm livin in Sweden and we can't buy them here in Sweden anymore.

This keycaps set are not any good for a backlit k-board. The LEDs are on. The Esc cap (Raven smoke, HKP) don't belong to this set.

A test picture of my white ISO/Nordic Ducky Shine 2 with white LEDs and some laser engraved Grey/Blue caps, the Grey caps don't shine through and the Blue only glows a little little bit.

Here in Sweden we only have 2 shops with some ISO/Nordic keycaps sets.

The second k-board with this ANSI/ISO keycaps set: http://www.maxkeyboard.com/max-universal-cherry-mx-translucent-clear-black-full-keycap-set-front-side-print.html

Same set but top printed: http://www.maxkeyboard.com/max-universal-cherry-mx-translucent-clear-black-full-keycap-set-top-print.html

The "Esc, F1 - F12 row" and 4 caps to right don't belong to this set. Only Prnt Scr, Scroll Lock and Pause belong to the set.

2 sets of Duckys Spacebar Cities Edition.
New York, Sydney and Taipei and London, Sydney and Taipei.

Duckys Spacebar Cities Edition - Sydney, on my ANSI Ducky Shine 4 69 Edition with Galaxy Class keycaps set (bought on Massdrop).

The LEDs don't shine through this keycaps set only on the spacebar.

Hej Seville!

Thanks for the photos and example.  In the third picture, what's the key set on there (pink)?

So essentially IF i want the back light the search is going to be a pain.

Or i buy Ducky key caps that are specifically for their keyboards.

One question, as long as theyre cherry key caps am i ok to just buy them - other than space bar size what considerations do i need to take, also what would be the implication of buying ANSI keycaps when i have an ISO board - my logic says that its not going to work - is that a correct assumption.

On an alternative note, I live in the UK but i do make several trips a year to Sweden, you dont really know me form adam but if we managed to come to some sort of agreement i can bring and then internally post uk supplied items if you would like.

Tack.

H

  • Missed another sale.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Hi H

Varsågod. You're welcome.

Thanks for the offer.

The pink (Duckys own ABS) set come with the white Ducky Shine 2 k-board.

I also have this Ducky Shine 2 ABS set in ANSI layout.

Ducky Shine 3 Cherry MX Red - White LEDs

Ducky Shine 3 Cherry MX Black - Red LEDs

Ducky Shine 4 69 with 9 diffrent Cherry MX switches

You can use a ANSI set on a ISO k-board but you need to replace the ANSI Enter + ANSI Left Shift and maybe some more caps.

The problem is to find the same matchin color (same as the ANSI) set on the big ISO Enter + the ISO Left Shift and maybe some more caps.

This a test picture with skit(key)cools ugly/terrible legends ANSI 108 Rainbow set with some of Duckys pink ISO caps on my white ISO Ducky Shine 2 board.

The Capslock are from the skitcools set, the rest of the pink are Duckys.

You have the keycaps size in this (ANSI) list:

 The  spacebar size is 1x6.25.

Thank you both.

It seems that I have a great deal more to learn.

I suspect that things become more apparent when you're three or four purchases in and you can then start to mix match and experiment with different combinations.

again thank you both for your input.
