@captaineleven I like it because there's a balance between space on desk and still having screen real estate. Never had two monitors, with an ultra wide I don't want it either.
Peace, love and keyboards.

bruh.

that desk is a damn mess.

it is so messy that i don't know where to begin

so i didn't

i christen the zone between the monitor and the keyboard the used-it-once-and-i-promise-to-place-it-back-where-it-belong-but-i-left-it-there zone

Here's what you need to do.

Get a box.

Put it at the end of your desk.

Push everything into that box.

Buy hhkb.

Only mouse, monitor and hhkb are allowed on the desk from now on.

Oh, come on. That's one of the most realistic setups I've seen yet.
Mine isn't as cluttered, but it sure isn't the tidy and sterile schemes that are so popular.

I tried reading my manga on the computer. Didn't like it because  you don't get the "smell and feel" of the book. I've also read a bunch a books on the kindle, but that got old  as well.

Screen or book?

I prefer book, but that's because I've never read a manga on screen. I've read several comics, but I just can't get over the look of pure ink on paper.

most of the mangas we have in Singapore are all translated into mandarin, it's faster and easier to translate from romaji. my mandarin isn't as proficient as my english, hence i opted reading the manga online; where they provide english subs

my sister used to have a **** tonne of manga, she has since culled the rest and kept a selected few

i have also read comics on screen  :))

You guys should see my office. It's a complete, utter disaster.

I hate to be that one-upping guy, but my office is also terrible (okay maybe I didn't one-up, but I at least one-lateraled).  I can't have anyone stop by without pointing it out.  Production samples are strewn everywhere, it is a complete mess.  :-[

Is that some sort of coffee machine ON THE DESK?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Make sure the screen has a good quality IPS panel. IPS panels tend to have a larger viewing angle than TN panels.
Most screens are designed with regular orientation in mind, so the vertical viewing angle isn't as large as the horizontal one.
I found that when I rotate TN panels the colours are funky and I feel like I'm going cross eyed.

Out of all the monitors I've used, the Asus VG248QE is by far my favorite and it supports rotation.

Nice setup there, I'd definitely consider something like this, also how do you stretch the wallpaper across all screens?

Hey sorry, I haven't looked at this thread in a while. My monitors should be Dell 2414h's. The h usually signifies thin bezel for Dell. I've had a bunch of monitors over the years and in the end, I really like the ultra sharp line from Dell. Of course, you can always go for a high refresh date monitor for gaming but I don't game much anymore.

Hope that helps a little bit.

I'm looking for a screen that can rotate vertically like yours, do you have any recommendation?
Hey sorry, I haven't looked at this thread in a while. My monitors should be Dell 2414h's. The h usually signifies thin bezel for Dell. I've had a bunch of monitors over the years and in the end, I really like the ultra sharp line from Dell. Of course, you can always go for a high refresh date monitor for gaming but I don't game much anymore.

Hope that helps a little bit.

And the Dell 2414h monitors are excellent monitors for gaming if you are okay with 60Hz refresh rate or you can overclock it to 75Hz. I have 60Hz 2414h and game with it a lot and have had no problems with fast FPS games or RPG's.

I agree. I am pretty casual so I haven't done any oc on the monitor. But I love these monitors :)

You can also make your own VESA mounts for a few dollars at Home Depot.

OK, that is really cool. Did you have to do a lot of welding or was it easier than that?

No welding at all, just bolts. I used a drill press to keep the holes even.

Who knew 4-square box covers were nearly VESA compatible. Really nice work.

Were those pipes in pre-threaded lengths?

They were the right size, but I had to tap the holes myself. And yes, the pipes were pre-threaded at those lengths. Most hardware stores (HD, Lowes, etc.) will cut and thread the pipe for you for free.

Wow I actually wanna make one of these now... It looks more solid than ones you can buy too!

It definitely is. And I think it looks cleaner too. My real reason for doing this was I wanted something that wouldn't take up desk space with a base abs I didn't like how deep the VESA mounts were. I was trying to keep everything as far back as possible. Also, this was much cheaper, about $60.

Nice setup there, I'd definitely consider something like this, also how do you stretch the wallpaper across all screens?

Kinda depends which OS you're on. But find a picture that has the correct resolution (ex. 3840 x 1080 for dual monitors) and set it to either Fit or one of the other options in the Windows personalization menu.

Thanks. I saw a pre-fab one online that used a clamp style base, but it looked super flimsy, and I thought to myself, "I bet I can make this better!"

Is it friction alone that prevents the two outer monitors from swinging down?  If so, how confident are you that it will hold for an extended time?
