Keyboard Shopping in Japan
« on: Sun, 23 November 2014, 16:49:44 »
Hello everyone.

Does anyone live in or has visited Japan? I'm wondering if anyone has been to any keyboard shops or recommends any stores that sell keyboards. Worse case I'll try and find a Ducky Mini YOTH with clears in Japan since, from what I've gathered, clears are more common in Asia than the states.

I didn't see any clears while I was in Japan, but this was almost 2 years ago. I saw a lot of MX reds, though.

I'm assuming that you mean Tokyo? Japan isn't just akiharabara, shinjuku, etc lol
Anyways your beat is Akiharabara and other than yodobashi camera, SofMap and such you should walk around and keep an eye out since there's many small vendors everywhere that have random stuff.

Are there any shops in Osaka that carry Realforce?

I'm gonna be doing a week trip in Japan, but it's mostly business in Nagoya and some leisure in Osaka/Kyoto, so hopefully I can find some 55g Realforce there!

I've never been there so i don't know if they have a good keyboard display but they carry decent hardware so i imagine they'd have an okay selection on keyboards as well. It's also situated in Nipponbashi which is supposed to be like the 2nd choice after Akiba in Japan.

Also just keep an eye our for the bigger chain's too like SofMap and yodobashicamera.

Yodabashi in Akiba had a few models of Realforce and HHKB (I ended up picking up a HHKB because they were so cheap). Hopefully the Osaka store carries them as well.

I have pictures of the models they stocked as well as their prices if anyone's interested.

You know, I must say I was disappointed with Akibahara. I'm not sure what I was expecting but it's definitely a let down. It wasn't the great electronics town I had imagine. Maybe I've grown too old.

really? what were you expecting?
Although i know it's started to flood with Anime stuff and light prostitution, the last time i went about 5 years ago it was everything i expected with high end PC hardware, home electronics, and miscellaneous electronics like flashlights and such all found in a couple blocks from each other.
Keyboard wise i'm not sure since i wasn't as heavily into it back then.

I don't know. I guess it's also pretty common to have malls dedicated to electronics in Malaysia. We have almost 3-4 of them in my city and they all look same-y to me. And Akiba wasn't much difference except that there's more of them. I'm too jaded.
