i do love plateless board's but wouldn't this have potential issues with the PCB mounting point's snapping off in the far future or is the PCB just more durable than i am imagining in my head

Hi. Not at all actually! I’ve been typing on these for quite a while now, and even when I apply full downward force, the mounting tabs are far away from snapping off. Under normal typing pressure, it is not of any concern.

I appreciate you pointing it out though since I’m sure others probably had the same concern!

I really hope alu won't be included by default.
First, I hope it helps drive/keep the price down.
Two, I love the 7V, but I was not a fan of the "floating plate above pcb mounted keeb" sound profile.
Either way, I'm watching this IC closely. Good luck my dude.

I have 2 plateless boards (Timberwolf and 7V), still going strong.
You are right, PCBs are more durable and flexible than most people think.
Apart from that, there is a threshold of distance (not sure how far) a PCB will flex before it snaps. The tiny amount of space inside a keyboard will not let that happen.

Thanks for the support people! Really hoping I can provide more consistent updates on the project. Next update would be about the final layout options (mainly with regards to spacebar), and hopefully some news on vendors!

I was really considering this as a daily driver if it were 250-ish... I think I'll convince myself to buy it either way, but please keep us informed!

Hoping its lower, considering Nascent was a 65% that was $290 w/carrying case. Also, it had cerakote, which is more expensive than ano. But I understand vendors are probably the reason for this, hope it does well.

Thanks everyone for the support!

Also realized that I’m an idiot and didnt upload layouts. Will do it over the weekend, but you can expect the typical 60% fare. I really wanted to do the og HHKB layout with the larger right hand side blocker, but it likely wont happen. Will mostly include just the regular HHKB option along with WK and WKL.

Also regarding sound tests, they will take some time but I wanna make sure its a representative sound test. I personally do not have a recording setup of any sort, but will ask some friends to record it! Wont happen before end of month though.

Thanks again!!

I am happy that you have ever thought of the true (6u spacebar) HHKB layout.
It's a pity that won't happen in this run.

Yes! Am in the process of talking to vendors, and that can be a bit slow. However, I expect those details to get finalized soon!

There are some really interesting boards coming up soon^tm which will have the true hhkb layout (Baul's type-B, and the Matrix 6xv3.0 Falcon come to mind). You should check them out!

Thanks for the pointers.
With closer to the left F & J homing keys, a left shifted spacebar with 6u or even shorter at 5.5u is an optimized design - I think you might be one of the rarer designers who are aware of the value of the true hhkb layout.

I cannot locate "Baul's type-B"
About Matrix, they have beautiful and interesting designs, and they execute their projects brilliantly. However, I prefer designs that are a bit more minimal than their usual design language. Would be very excited if OWLab (or Qwertykey) or RAMA have a true HHKB option in their future projects, they all have not-so-overwhelming design language (just my personal taste) and their pricing are reasonable.

I don't think there's a public IC for it yet but you can find info in Baul's discord - https://discord.com/invite/v2sWm88

not a fan of the big chamfers on the keycap side, but aside from this the specs are perfect imo, will watch and see how this project goes. GL!  :thumb:

They're much smaller in the more recent protos. Will post pictures soon, but you can follow my discord for the most up to date pictures! https://discord.gg/9yhpRku2

Apologies if you think I ignored, was just waiting on these haha. Final colours:

295526-0

Also there will be an internal engraving, the one you see.

GB should be in Mid-March 2023. Should have protos in all colours before then, which is when I will update this thread properly.

Thanks for staying tuned guys!
