[IC] Nouen Artisan Tray | Made from plastic recycle!

Hello guys!

We are from YVKStudio, and we are known as a wooden spacebar maker. You can see our work here!
Today we want to introduce our new project, We cannot wait to share this project with all of you after a couple of months does a couple of experiments to get the best result on the material and design for this artisan tray.


This project's main idea is to ensure that we are not only consuming plastic for our beautiful artisan keycap but also positively impacting the environment. Each artisan tray is crafted from high-quality recycled plastic, piles of wasted plastic turn into a sheet and CNC them into an artisan tray.


We do a couple of experiments to make a beautiful product from recycled plastic besides turning them into a sheet we use silicone molding, but consistency is the main enemy of this method. Another method we want to try is injection molding but it will cost a lot of money to make the master molding. So for this project, we will do with CNC from recycled plastic sheets first.


Last but not least... recycled plastic products are distinctive and unique, so irregularities and variations in color, texture, and finish are inherent and expected. We feel these irregularities and variations shouldn’t be considered a defect, as it gives our products unique characteristics enhancing the aesthetics of each piece.

We are now in the phase of prototyping this artisan tray, we will give an update when the prototyping is done here and on our Discord Server.

I absolutely love the idea of more sustainable products like this.
I also appreciate the 7u slot to accommodate odd sized caps like spacebars.

Personally though I don't need more displays, I need more storage.
Something with taller sides, perhaps stackable or with a lid would be a great option for me.

Update

We decided to make the tray from molding not from recycle plastic sheet and then CNCed. Material will still use recycle plastic, hope the molding option makes the price can be affordable for everyone.
Here's the photo for the proto master, next step we will do the finishing master first and then make silicone mold for production. 🤞

What type of recycled plastic is being used? PET? HDPE?

Just wondering if there will be warping inconsistencies b/c of the various plastics used that have different melting temps/characteristics

We use both PET and HDPE it's all depends on what color available when doing the production process.

The prototype picture was updated, and we are back to the original plan which is to make sheet blocks of recycled plastic and CNC them to make the tray!
