What to do with the HHKB Pro 2?
« on: Sat, 17 November 2007, 03:19:32 »
I can't decide whether to sell the HHKB Pro 2. I prefer my other mechanicals to it, so therefore I have a $280 keyboard collecting dust. It's a shame. I may not use it again – I like the loud 'boards and going back and forth between layouts is hard. If I put it on eBay, I could make enough to buy a different keyboard or two and some baby stuff.

So I leave it up to you guys.

I think it is obvious.  If you aren't using your HHKB on a regular basis and money is tight, then you definitely gotta sell it.  It is a waste otherwise.  You should be able to fetch a decent price on eBay for it.

Especially right before Christmas and there are no others eBay right now. What would you do – start the bidding high or set a reserve?

Personally, I'd start the bidding at $50 and set no reserve.  But that's just how I roll.  ;)

That approach did me wrong on the HHKB Lite.

Sell and stock up on Alps boards while you still can.

That does seem to be the consensus.

If I was selling a used HHKB pro, I wouldn't expect more that $100-150.  You could probably get significantly more...however, I certainly wouldn't pay more than that for a used one.  (but I have issues with used stuff in general...so who knows?)

You know what? I'm diggin on the HHKB Pro 2 right now for several reasons, a couple of which are the Mac controls the Fn key provides, and by now they come naturally to me. I have more control over my computer on this than any other keyboard I own. It even has the shut down key. Because of it's footprint, when I'm sitting at my desk, I have the MacBook touchpad and my mouse nearly equidistant from each of my hands (I'm ambidextrous, so this matters to me),

and the click isn't that bad even though it's too soft.

Plus, it's the pimpin'est azzed keyboard on the planet. I'm keeping it. Screw it, I have a job, I'll be fine.

If this were some mass-produced over-priced Logitech or MS board that you can always buy somewhere, then selling it would not be an issue. But who knows how long they'll make the HHKBP2's for?  Even if you don't absolutely love it, it's still worth keeping just for the rarity factor.
