So. Chemist, how do you mod them?

http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=51792.msg1171989#msg1171989

Haha, I am embarrassed by how ghetto that video is.  I was having a hell of a time trying to get my phone's camera to focus on what was in my hands.  Oh well....

wires were crossed on getting the samples to me. i'm going to start the first cuts, because i know the bottom plates can be cut, and then, depending on my cutter's cut schedule, drive down to LA to retrieve samples, measure them out with my cutter, talk to JD and then trigger the whole run if things look good.

if he can make the first cuts this week, i'm going to head down this week. otherwise, i'm going to head down next week. it also depends on the body shop's schedule, as i will need to pick up my car from the shop in norcal when it's done.

There is an Fn layer. You hold down the Pn/Fn key and use Q as F1, A as 1, etc. JD posted the layers elsewhere.

Hello!

I'm quite new here.

I tried googling this but I couldn't any information about the notched top plates.

excuse the noob question, but does this mean you don't need to solder the switches to the pcb board? i'm not sure how this works..

I might need some pictures or a video on this.

You need to solder in the switches, but simple tools like tweezers can be used to remove the top of the switch, allowing you to change stems and springs as desired. Bottoms of switches are identical on all types.

CTRL ALT sells a complete built one. So for us who can't build it themselves it's a good option.
I got a question. Is there any chance to use a international JD40? With هنِ?

I'm thinking about the board, but the assembly process is a little more than I think I can do myself. And I have no idea how to program a tensy.

You only have to flash the teensy with the firmware someone else already made. Mkawa may even be able to do it for you, but you'd have to ask him.

Does the easy avr firmware deal going to support this PCB?  I remember hearing talk about it but don't remember what the final answer was for this version.

Cool thanks for the quick reply.  I would assume the untreated part is due to none in the wild with the exception of prototypes of mkawas?

i am hoping to have enough time tomorrow to bug the cutter to give me the nesting data. i have to do some arithmetic to calculate cost, material bulk, and correlate that with the number of orders with and without notched plate upgrades. once i have those numbers, i will be able to say something substantial to you guys. right now it is actually just "yep, i QCed the sample cut and it was awesome, so we're going to cut.. any.. day.. now.."

:P

what i can say those is that i had an email chat with largefry wherein i gave him the magnitude of the donation that this project will be able to make to the foundation, and he was blown away (as I am every day i realize that we're doing this :D). anyway, long story short, he's going through the final paperwork to get the foundation set up. once that is all submitted, there is the usual wait to incorporate and obtain 510(c)(3) status in the eyes of the IRS.

finally, JD has the ptfe coated sample of the gasket and he thinks it is a large improvement over the original samples, but he's afraid that the coating might be too thin. i've contacted the sorbo guys about this and they are mulling it over. they felt this was the best solution (they are aware both of the charity aspect AND the keyboard design aspect of the project and have been beyond awesome about it), but they do have anything coating option, and from experience i know that even ptfe coating thicknesses can be manipulated by varying parameters of the process (ptfe usually is extremely homophobic, but it's also more or less amorphous -- the big problem is that in order to get it to a nice coating consistency, you have to cause degradation by heating it up such that it releases toxic gases)
