Got my inserts today, thanks Elton! Board looks a lot more complete now! Only waiting for cyan LEDs and the courage to replace the side LEDs :x

Are you going to desolder/resolder the whole board to put the LEDs in?

No, I just have to put them through the hole and solder them onto the PCB. Shouldn't take too long.

Margon assembled mine but they seem like regular red leds. It's the stainless plate with the clear tops that causes this "fire/lava" effect on camera. It is a little bit more reddish IRL.

So what's the general consensus on the preferred keycap profile for these boards?

I'm trying to decide whether I want Granites (DSA) or Classic Beige Otaku (Cherry Profile) on my Viper (which finally touched down Stateside and recently got through customs!).

Noooo, with less keys on the bottom row, it's hard to find a place to fit the FN

Plus, I love the HHKB split Shift/FN

Push comes to shove, I'll just wait to score a GMK CYMW kit or something =/

Billnye420 is right.  (what has this world come to)

Cherry is best.  If you're having issues with cap sizes, I'd try to find a CMYK or other set that can flesh out the missing caps.  But that's obviously a lot of work, I don't mean to make it seem easy.  But IMO it's worth it since Cherry profile is best.  :))

I think you're missing the point.  You made a comment about wanting a short right shift, so demik said 1800 layouts have short right shifts.  Then you said that you have a laser printed 1800 set and you don't like it.  That's irrelevant.  If you don't want lasered caps, don't buy lasered caps.

the black ones that are blank or laser etched are cherry profile
https://www.massdrop.com/buy/vortex-pbt-keycaps
i have blank ones and they are pretty nice although they are more of a very dark grey than an actual black.

the double shot ones however are oem.

either way the profile should be in the description.

Ah, in that case I was probably just unclear with my initial post. My bad.

All I meant to convey is that even though I am super sure of using a short right shift, I am reluctant to use the one from my own 1800 set which is laser printed and feels completely different to the touch from my Otaku Classic Beige set. I was directing my "dislike" towards my particular 1800 keyset not against the 1800 keyset in general or your post.

It's a motley mix of switches, but it's all part of a plan I swear.

Yeah I guess, I think we could use 100 on the side of the LED. Since it is hidden it does not matter.
