Finally broke down and picked up a
Marseille mCable. Really curious to see the improvements it makes on Gamecube and PS3 specifically.
aaand it doesn't work; all I get is a black screen after boot animation on any monitor and device combination. cool.
Hey, got it working finally. The improvements are not as dramatic as I'd hoped, but honestly it's a miracle a video cable can improve in-game graphics at all on that level. Better draw distance (I should clarify: things far off are more in-focus giving the illusion of better draw distance,) and anti-analising. Some smoothed out otherwise jagged polygon edges. I feel like the colors are richer than a standard HDMI cable. Depending on the game engine your mileage may vary. On a game like METRO the difference was noticeable immediately, but something like MGSV with it's weird ass FOX Engine there were a few very minor conflicts with how the engine renders some things and the cable forcing it into a smoother resolution. Will test on Gamecube and other systems tomorrow.
Is it worth the price? If you have some extra cash and want to incrementally make your graphics slightly better it's basically the only option. Like I said, it's fascinating that it works at all and actually does what it advertises (looking at the actual advertisements they are inaccurate, but just do a search for comparison shots and you'll get the picture.)
