So obviously it isn't mine but... damn, these things are not very often seen in the wild like this and I wanted to share this rare sight with my fellow Topre/ HHKB enthusiasts.  :o

Nearly all of my old Topre stuff is found on Yahoo Auctions Japan. Admittedly, very old Topre boards like this do have a stiffer feel that doesn't "snap" as nicely as a fresh Realforce/HHKB for example, however, in a blind test I'm sure I'd still be able to identify it as a Topre against any other board.

This is a pic taken a few days before the MCRW-5000 arrived. It shows most of the Topre keyboards I own, with the exception of my work keyboard (87UB), the Deskthority Tour board (104UW) and a board that my brother is using (103UW):

Not really! I mean, in terms of which board I would most like to use, the answer is probably the NISSHO KB106DE. I am actually a little bit upset that mine was in such good condition because I really don't want to ruin it by using it.

I love each board for one reason or another, but some of the ones I think are really cool are the Epson BFKBPS2, the ilovex keyboard, the Sony NEWS NWP-411A and the NEC A-VX N8606. Also, the numpad pictured above is the first Topre-made one I've found (other than the 23U/UB of course) so I think it's pretty special too.

Keyboards are meant to be typed on though 002! And at least you know that you're the one wearing it in :D. I love that collection, thanks for sharing.

One more thing. Could you explain to me what the MCRW-5000 was intended to be used for? I read the description but I didn't understand what it meant.

Very cool, man. I like the Sony NEWS NWP-411A and the MCRW you just received the best. Do those appear on Yahoo JP with any regularity?

Yeah I know, CPTBadAss, I am normally in that camp too honestly. The thing is I like to just collect and document most of the time. Most of these keyboards are not compatible with your everyday PC without some serious know-how anyway, so for the greater good, my goal is just to learn about them and share the knowledge/pics with others. The MCRW is a magnetic card reader/writer (I think moreso the latter). I am no expert on the matter but my basic understanding is that you would buy blank magnetic strip cards, and encode them with whatever information your external system requires -- bank cards, identification cards, etc.

intelli78, the two MCRW machines in my possession are literally the only two I've seen on Yahoo Auctions since I started collecting. They are pretty rare. The Sony NEWS on the other hand, I have seen them pop up from time to time but they are also not exactly common. Maybe 1 every six months or so...and usually it's the 5461 variant.

hasu actually pointed out to me though that there is an MCRW-1000 keyboard in the classifieds section. This was a few weeks ago. I am not sure if it is still for sale.

Gave the old HHKB a clean tonight, terrible lighting but whatever. I rescued her from the bin too, the Mini USB port was completely f&&ked from so much usage, I managed to ghetto mod it with a new port and soldering it with some ribbon wire as the traces were ruined. So glad to get her back up and running, I forgot how good these boards are
