All these white HHKBs are almost making me want a white one instead of my black one.

I think some blank whites are in order...

I highly recommend it if that's the look you're going for. Here's mine from a while back (repost!):

i need to buy some blank white HHKB caps. Excuse me  :))

DO IT! White/Grey caps on black HHKB is still my favorite combo!

Damn those look awesome, fair play! I've only ever seen Dye come out pretty washed out or having some nasty pattern on the keys or something, but those look pretty ballin'

Rit is a commonly used brand of dye to color plastics. They changed their recipe a few years ago resulting in this splotchiness. In addition to that, not all colors work as well as others. Btw - those keys are currently holding up quite well - here's a quick shot at work, sorry the board is well used and dirty

Thank you for gracing us. Thank you for that beautiful photo.

If you're talking about my RGB HHKB, THANKIES!!!

Welcome to Geekhack!

And congratulations on your acquisition :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I used purple iDye Poly on my grey hhkb modifiers and it turned out like this: (They are all the same shade of purple, the lighting makes them look different)

Yeah you are indeed. If I want to get one through EK it will cost me $396 considering the shipping fees and import taxes. So damn painful ...

You might try ordering straight from Japan through a proxy. I'm not sure what all import/shipping fees you'll have to pay, but the non-Type S are ~$195 before fees at the moment (~$235 for Type S) because of the weak yen.

haha Vesper you crazy
besides your photos > my photos

Looks like Rit is out and other dyes are in, which is great for the community of Geekhackers and disc golf alike! For those nervous about doing it, here's an old tutorial I did a while back, but anyone is free to make suggestions on updating it

https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=27237.0

Just make sure you do them all in batches if you want the colors to match. If you have an old IBM Model M laying around, you can dye those keycaps first to practice on, as they are also PBT (and cheap keycaps to replace)

Yeah I already considered this option and I contacted a geekhacker living in Japan. I'll see how it ends up. Ordering through EK is not even an option. I get it cheaper if I proxy through tenso and pay the full VAT + import taxes combo.

Not yet, wanted to make sure I was comfortable with the HHKB layout (+my modifications) before committing to doing something as time consuming as that. Finally starting to get the hang of the control key, still might shift some other keys around though. I setup left bracket to function as down arrow and right bracket to function as right arrow and that's helped a lot as well.

vesper is a bad influence on wallets  ;D

You'll never go back, exitfire was my bad influence.

This, blue alps, and Hoff's Kish will be the death of me. Going to that meetup was a bad idea.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Something about that photo makes everything look metallic.. It looks great, at any rate.
