In prep for having HiPro caps again, and because I needed to swap in my purple sliders to my 87u 55g I went ahead and figured out a way to fix the issue with the pesky slider in the bottom left CTRL to make it compatible with HiPro and 104u caps. The guide is up on KeyChatter  :thumb:

If you shave the edge of the housing down that's closest to the LED spot, you don't need to desolder the LED. I forgot the exact spot to shave from, but I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere in my post history if someone wants to look for it.

Still hoping for a solution that doesn't involve cutting the plate. Tried finding one a few months back by cutting a full-size housing, but didn't have any luck.

edit- corrected myself, it was the slider housing- not the slider.
edit2- old pic i found (shaky hands = non-precision work huehue)-

Cutting the plate seemed like the best option for me as the housing still clicks in place both ways, which is nice. That a good tip though on the LED

Or you could use a 3d printed slider that has the correct orientation on the nubs, like I am...

I just installed mine yesterday. They're a bit scratchy (injection molding vs 3d printed), but reversible mod makes it a plus IMO. I lubed the slider to make it a bit nicer. I don't use that key though, so for me its just to get it mounted.

roger that, i'll be sure to lube. and yeah this would be going on an emergency only keyboard for me, so not too concerned about functionality. just would like to be able to put the mods of a 104ub-dk on a TKL without cutting into the plate of this one.

ordered one of the black ones, two week delivery eta, we'll see how it goes  :thumb:

Probably stay like this until I can find some KeyKollectiv mods... Or I break down and buy a blank white set to dye the mods.

Do the Cherry caps feel noticeably different on Topre compared to the stocks?

Probably depends on the type of plastic the Cherry MX caps are. Most are PBT right and HHKB uses ABS?

Topre keycaps are PBT, with the spacebar being the exception; its ABS.

These are ABS mods, obviously, and POM blanks for the rest. POM is my favorite, and I typically prefer ABS over PBT.

Low light photo last night:

126852-0

I noticed an odd phenomenon using it briefly last night though that I'm not sure is inherent to silenced boards or not. Any key pressed hard enough has a sound that can perhaps be described as a ping, but almost feels slightly "sticky" as well... it seems to only occur when bottoming out with sufficient force. I haven't noticed this on my HHKB Pro 2 or RF23U, but neither is a fully an accurate comparison. I'll have to use it for more time to better describe it.

Loving it overall though. Weird to have a full-sized layout after using TKL for so many years  :p.

I was wondering who else was going to pop up with one of the keyboards as it was pretty clear one of the other buyers was bidding through a proxy (based on the accounts feedback score). Grats!

How dirty was your your 5461? Mine was in a sad state, thankfully the keycaps cleaned up incredibly easy.

I apologize for the iPhone potato quality/lighting but this is the only family photo of all three boards.  I swapped some keys around after this picture was taken.  They're all printed - next on my todo is to get some PBT blanks, PBT spacebars and mix in the Topre HKP blanks I have.

Now I need black mods modifiers, and repainting the case to black.

Thank you :)

At that point, there was another topre board, the JDL board which I'm pretty interested as well but I got sniped in the end.

The board that I've got is pretty dirty as well and the keycaps is fairly easy to clean. The case is pretty yellow too

homey do NOT paint your case, yellowed hhkb is a workhorse not a blight. is that a pro-1 or pro-2?
those caps look cool!

that's a pro 2. bought it at a really good price but with this case lol.

If the alphas matches well with black case + black modifiers then i might just end up spraying the case ._.

Dustin posted a process to get a yellowed case back to a nice white, looks like it worked really well, you might want to google that.

retro blight > retro brite

respect the yellowing

One of my only critiques of the Realforce boards is that they don't have rubber pads on the top part of the case, but only have those plastic bumps. It's probably not an issue for most people, but because my desk tends to dent/mark up fairly easily those little plastic bumps always bothered me. So I found one of my old laptops that had rubber feet tall enough to raise the board enough to clear those plastic bumps and stuck them on the board. It feels a lot better knowing that I'm not scratching or denting my desk now. And it also added some extra grip which is always nice.  :thumb:  :p

Norbaforce (88UB, BKE Heavy, silenced), Noxary XRF (stock 87UB, 55g) Singa R2 (retooled MX Blacks w/ 68g catweewee springs), LZ GH V2 (V1 Zealios 67g), RAMA U80-A (Holy GSUS)
