Post by: cactux on Mon, 31 October 2011, 23:05:38: Since most of us likes playing with BRICKS I decided to organize this BRICK FACES GB. This keycap will fit Row 1 only.

So the estimate price per keycap will be between $2 USD - $5 USD. The final price will be base on the number of people, willing to buy these keycaps.

I already talked to SP and they are able to make these double shoot keycaps. since this is a new design we need to choose a single design.

In order to choose the right design, I would like to know which design you prefer. Down below each image there is the actual name of each image, use that name in order to answer the :typing: FOLLOWING 4 QUESTIONS SURVEY (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dG1FZmNjVWwyNUVrX0UyeEZ6bkdCbkE6MQ).:grouphug:

having 9 options that can be individually chosen kills the possibility for any of them to reach a successful count. In reality, a single-key buy that fails to reach 75ct has failed to reach reasonably low price. This buy, because it carries the weight of new legend fees, suffers heavily from a under-75ct purchase rate.

Again, you could always have a staged end-point where at a particular time you drop the least popular keys and ask anyone that had ordered one of the least popular designs consider ordering into the designs that are carrying forward.

The first step in this GB is the survey and the goal of this survey is:
1) Understand if the people want a single keycap or multiple keycaps
2) Which keycap is the most popular (if we decide to have a single keycap)
3) How many people are interested
4) How many keycaps are most likely to be ordered

Once that we have the information from this survey, we will be in better position to understand what the people wants and how can we meet there needs.

The keytop on these keycap has an opaque top face. This could be laser etched with the Alien image either in normal or negative relief. The opaque top face allows light from the LED. SP is starting to get iffy on doing copyrighted(is that how you say it?) material.

those are lego heads, so chances are.. they are a no go.

personally, if he got rid of the top part (which looks more like bunny ears to me) they would look a ton better.

cactux, were you told to take down the prototype pictures because of that? or did you do it yourself?

Melissa is actually pretty understanding. I have spent the last few weeks working with her on copyright issues and if you can present proof that the physical image of a Lego head is not copyrighted then you are fine. It is incredibly simple to present a set of images to her to even test the waters with a design rather than falling back on something that looks even more botched than the featureless TL key.

I'm pretty sure, copyright would protect the "idea"/design of lego and not just the plastic bricks.

The thing is if we used the design that looked very like lego, It could very easily be prossecuted by Lego. Signature Plastic could get in a lot of trouble. It's a risk they are not willing to take. And frankly we don't want them to get in trouble as well. They are the only people doing doubleshot keycaps. It's best to avoid these issues, since I want someone to be able to make my keycaps. Hence why i've been cranking out a lot of different designs to avoid using the original lego look. If you've got ideas on what we can do please contribute.

Really? Thats interesting. If someone can verify this. I'm pretty sure Cactux will do the original designs we had.

I think though that most, if not all of the ideas on the first page are from kits newer than 1988 and likely have new patents/copyrights in place for them. My guess though is that SP won't do these unless Lego themselves says its ok :-(

I did a bit of reading along this. We really need someone who knows how the law works. But from my understanding at the moment, is that their copyrights expired. Therefore anyone can make Lego-like stuff and make them compatible with their blocks. However Lego and their minifigs are lego trademarks. So as long as we don't market them as lego, we should be fine?

I sent a letter to Lego several days ago requesting there blessing and I have not recived any replay from them :sleep: . So I guess we can not wait to much longer and we need to either move on with the actual design or maybe make some slight modifications to this design. I know that some of you will like to see the first original design in place, but without lego blessing I can not move forward.
