i was thinking about the black before that pink was announced. that pink is amazing. it really does look like an automotive paint job. and the lime green seems perfect with terminal.
great job with this, i hope to get one :).
Are you still thinking about making the "White Pearl Tri-coat, aka cocaine white." you spoke of at one point?
Will you be running the Samoyed at the same time?
Is that a black with metallic flake? Any chance of really dark green?

But can it play Doom?My nipples metapodding, confirmed in for 2 or moreif it will support Latching SKCM alps.
Since it runs QMK, it supports locking keys on caps, scroll, or num lock. If you're on an OS that doesn't understand locking lock keys, you have to enable locking resync but it's a very tested and reliable feature in QMK.
Also, a tease. There's a huge advantage to using a MCU that has enough pins that we don't have to remap dedicated function pins like I2C into GPIOs to drive the matrix.Show Image(https://i.imgur.com/FIhhum7.jpg)
Maybe I'm being thick but I can't see anywhere it says what the case is made out of? I mean I guess it's aluminium...
Anyway, those pink and green ones look special. I can see myself indulging in this if the funds allow.

They’re plastic. They start life as a Cherry G80 case and undergo a refurbishment process. I’m not sure how that fact got omitted from the post, my bad. I’ll update it shortly.

This looks pretty awesome... are you going to handle sourcing all the G80/81 donor cases?
They're nice, but I sure hope this isn't too pricey. If you look closely at the prototypes, the blue has some paint issues on the right corner by the seam, and the green has issues in the middle by the seam. I personally wouldn't want to pay top dollar for cases that had cosmetic issues. My personal opinion, but I've never seen painted finishes on keyboards come back flawless.

What’s “top dollar” in your eyes?
The cases I’m shooting with are ones that had issues from the paint shop. I have been playing around with the appliqués and diffuser stickers and didn’t want to handle the cases we will be selling too much to keep them pristine. We will have A stock options with no imperfections on the top case, maybe slight imperfections on the bottom case (where you don’t see it) and also B stock options that have slight imperfections like the ones you pointed out and will be selling those at a discount.

I would pay around $100. Just hope these aren't in the $200-$250 range

<$100 for the case only? You’re in good shape.
If you’re expecting this full kit to be sub-$100 you’re gonna have a bad time.
Is there a price range you're hoping to hit for the whole kit? I'd imagine with all the pcb work, that accounts for half the price.

The price I've seen mentioned has been $250~ pretty consistently, I may be wrong though as that was not directly from TKC. Pretty steep for a plastic case most people would say (and potentially true), however with the entire process this has to go through I'd say it seems quite fair.

Floating around 200 would be ideal IMO, but considering the amount of labor put into this (obtaining the cases, painting them, etc.), I'd consider 250 to be more than reasonable. But then again, they also have me wrapped around their finger with the blue g80 + skidata...
That pink is perfection. Double edged sword because I really wanted the white you guys are working on before but the pink has to be bought - make sure the price is right and I'll probably end up getting one of each!
Very much looking forward to it.
Yes less than $100 for the case. And that seems to be what you’re planning. So all is good for me
Any idea of the pricing for a simple stock naked case and a PCB?

Do you have a rough estimate for white painted case + pcb + plate? :)
I'm fairly a newbie at this but... if I do get a plate, then I'll need plate-mounted stabilizers? Even though the switches are PCB mounted?
Am aware you want to be sure with prices from the PCB manufacturer. A rough approx would be killer, though. I won't hold it against you if the prices suddenly spiked up

I don’t have a quote just yet. I’m STILL waiting on this new assembly place. I have a quote but not a sample. As soon as the new sample is received and tests 100% we will announce pricing. Expect around $200 total for thrbkit.
We will have GMK PCB mounted stabs available for sale with the kits and they are fully compatible with the plate.

As a rule of thumb, ALWAYS get PCB-mount stabilisers. If you want to use plate-mounted Cherry or Costar stabilisers, the plate actually has to be cut SPECIFICALLY to suit that specific layout. Which precludes all universal plates.
In fact, the only time you generally see the use of plate-mount stabilisers is for hand-wired builds without PCB, or on OEM off-the-shelf keyboards (for ease of assembly)

I agree. I would love more info on the oled display. Is the display being offered in the GB, or is that something we'll need to source?
We received the new PCB from the factory this past weekend. Everything tested good and we were pleased with the quality of the build.
Just awaiting a final quote, and I plan to place the first order this week. Stock will be limited from the first run (~100 units), we want to ensure quality in the production models. Once the first order is fulfilled and everything goes smoothly, we will open up a second round of orders.
Here are some shots of the new board. (https://imgur.com/a/psis3)
And for fun, some pics of the new candy pink case with the purple plate. (https://imgur.com/a/SWveI)

Wonderful pictures! I'm curious as for how the two runs are gonna go - if this has been decided, will the colours offered for both be identical as well as pricing? I'm getting one for sure and if everything's going to be the same through both runs I'll just pick the one which has the best timing for me personally.
Which products are you specifically interested in? Maybe I should run a survey and see what everyone is thinking so I can prepare.
Thanks!
I plan to sell the full kits along side the PCBs / plates on their own until we run out of stock on something. That will generate some capital to paint some more cases and gauge interest / gauge demand.
Initially all the colors and stock black cases will be available but in limited quantities. We had some bumps in the road during the first few runs of paint, so we have some B stock we can sell eventually. Now that we've done about 10 runs of the cases or so the quality is very consistent and we've worked out the bugs.

Can't wait! Prolly getting myself the black case or some B-stock cos I wanna paint it beige like old keyboards ;D

I’m sure they’d be able to sell you the original beige case - that’s what they start as before they paint it, so it’d be pointless actually painting it beige :thumb:

I believe the 1800's that TKC has are actually black plastic, not the beige ones.
edit: if you really wanted some authentic beigeness, you could always buy an old board off ebay, like this yellowed one (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Cherry-Electronics-G81-1841LPMUS-00-Keyboard-Model-1800/332532747585?hash=item4d6c7f0d41:g:pq0AAOSwxKBZ9m7v).

We've got NKRO on by default, it feels like fewer and fewer computers have trouble dealing with NKRO but is a configurable option via magic keys or by recompiling.

That's great. I didn't see any mention of the rollover, so I assumed the worst, but looking back on the (over-engineered) design of the PCB it should have been obvious :D

Over-engineered is an understatement:
- Broken out I2C and SPI pins
- Proper hardware PWM support on backlight
- Hardware PWM dimming on status LEDs (currently set by firmware to max brightness, still deciding how to best implement)
- Battery detect - the idea was originally to over BT support as well. I've had trouble getting the AdafruitBLE working. If someone got this working, there is a separate power pin for battery that would allow you to do cool stuff like auto-turn off RGB when on battery
Ive been playing in QMK since long before I got involved in this project. I can say with all honesty that this will be the most advanced board on the market when it comes to QMK support.
This is going to be the board for tinkerers to develop new stuff on.
Are you still thinking about making the "White Pearl Tri-coat, aka cocaine white." you spoke of at one point?
That Cocaine white is in production at the shop as we speak! Should have them back by Christmas time.
Any updates on this? I think I'd really enjoy having the white.
Concerning the BLE, I'd be super interested in implementing this as well! Actually, I am quite far already with a small numpad I use for testing purposes. Aside SPI, which is definitely needed for this, are there any other GPIO pins broken out? I think two or three would be needed to properly control the NRF module that Adafruit uses.
[Edit] If course, I am very interested in a PCB and maybe a plate, too

Pins broken out on headers:
MOSI, MISO, SCK, SDA, SCL
Pins easily accessible but not on headers per se:
RGB data (you'd have to solder to the Din pad on RGB1), num lock, caps lock, scroll lock
Due to routing issues, they weren't brought out to points but there are unused pins on the MCU you could attach to if you're skilled enough:
PE3-6, PB0, PB4, PB5, PD5, PD6

I don’t think they would have changed the design of the PCB. This is by no means a guarantee, but it’s safe to assume it will fit.

I already have a windows 8 logo 1800, and have a 1838 on the way, but I fear I'm going to have to get my hands on a third one and PCBs for each.
In my experiences I've had good luck with (OG) PCB mounted Cherry, would a plate even be noticeable in a case designed to support a plateless PCB?

I prefer using any G80 case with a plate. It's borderline unbearable to type on a PCB-mounted build

is it possible to just buy an pcb ?
The (original) PCBs are black or dark brown, so a black plate would blend right in. I have no problem cutting into the newer 1800, but I'm not sure I want to modify the 1838. I may try to reinforce the PCB from below, but I won't know till I have the parts partially assembled

I need 1 PCB what would be the price for 1 shipped to germany ? also is there a picture of the bottom side of the pcb ? how much smd underglow leds does it support ? greetings from germany ! :)
Is there an underglow or diffuser insert for the case?
interested aswell, how will the underglow of the pcb work ? and shipping quotes to Germany would be awesome aswell ! :)
Any chance of an assembled option?
(shipping price sounds good to me) i rly want this pcb for a tx1800 v2, just a few questions about the underglow, with its not supported you mean the leds are not presolderd right ? did you guys got the underglow working on this pcb at any point ? if so could you provide a simple guide or something like this, if its not to hard to get the underglow working on this one i would buy one for sure !

I believe they meant that the case does not support the... existence of underglow. Because it's solid plastic, no windows, no diffuser plate.
i see i think you are right, my english is not the best, would still love to know if there are places for the leds or if i can install an led strip

The MX1800 looks thicker to me.
Would the brass plate for the TX1800v2 fit this kit?
First of all, how do you even infer the thickness of PCBs based on pictures? "Looks thicker" is not a scientific measurement. FWIW, the Leeku MX1800 FR4 substrate is a bog-standard 1.6mm thickness (measured with calipers on both v1.3 and v1.6 versions)

There are places for the LEDs on the back of the pcb, I have a prototype that I was using for testing of my alps sliders, and that prototype has the LEDs on the board. They are probably not going to be on there as most cases don't support any underglow, and I don't believe they are going to change the pcb to remove those pads.
I check GH everyday, really want the plate and pcb so bad.
at what date can we expect to buy the pcb ? rly want this one :)
Seeing as they are such similar cases, this question applies to the Cherry 11900. What is a good way to add weight to these cases. Obviously the 11900 is pcb mount, so the tkc1800 plate will stiffen it up and add weight, but has anyone added anything into the case?

The ghetto way of doing it would be to go to hobby lobby, or similar hobby store, and buy some lead weights for pine wood derby cars. Otherwise you will have to do something more custom and expensive.

Hey everyone. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but were delayed again, hopefully for the last time.
Long story short, the PCB factory we ordered from basically decided to go AWOL and is not going to be fulfilling the order now.
We already got a bunch of quote requests out. Should know more in a few days.
If any vendors or makers have any recommendations on a good PCB supplier I can use, PM me. I appreciate it.
Full info here in a blog post. (https://thekey.company/blogs/blog-updates/tkc1800-delay-the-good-the-bad-the-ugly)

A bummer for sure, but waiting patiently is a skill everyone in this hobby must hone. And so we will continue to wait and hope for this excellent board!
(Side note, anyone have thoughts on the best way to go about making this a bluetooth board once I get one?)
Any chance of an assembled option?
Sucks about the delay but thanks for being deligent with the updates here :thumb:

Currently we have ~100 painted cases in stock and ~30 BNIB stock black cases, 50 plates (more on order), GMK screw in stabs and all the other required parts. The ONLY part not in stock is the PCB. The lead time on the PCBs is about 60 days. We are going to open the GB on Friday, March 02, 2018 at 7pm EST. First come, first served as each color is limited (we will be getting more stock of the brand new stock black cases so those will be an endless supply). Ill post a proper IC tomorrow to get everyone up to speed on the details of the buy.
...
TL;DR
GMK Led Zep - Production complete. Ships Mid-March
DSA Drifter - Delayed approx 1 month
Terminal_ R2 - GB starts after GMK Led Zep ships
TKC1800 GB starts this Friday

Will it be possible to buy a stock black case along with a painted one? If yes, how much will it cost?
On no! I'd been refreshing the preview page!!! And coca white is gone now. Dagnabbit!!!
BTW, can you describe the longevity of the paint? I may join v2 if it happens in the future for matte white case.
Note: Black unpainted cases, PCBs, and Plates will NOT sell out. Painted ones will, and probably fast.

Quick question regarding the PCBs and plates, I may have missed something but I didn't actually see when the GB is meant to close - as in, what's the deadline to get orders in? Just checking since I'll probably pick up an extra plate and PCB depending on how long orders for those remain open.
I don't quite get the ordering structure...
If I try to add an orange plate with the case kit, I get a sold out message, but then I can go to the extras page and order any plate I want.
Is this by design?
Im going to order quite a few PCBs so Ill probably just leave it open. Price may go up a touch once the order is placed. Safe bet, 2 weeks.
Did you get what you wanted, btw?

Roger that, 2 weeks is plenty, I did get the case colour I wanted thank you for asking! I just stumbled and cut some corners whilst ordering and checking out to make sure I made it in time so I'll shoot you an email some time this weekend to square up a couple things. Or I can just PM you on Reddit again if that works for you? Would probably be easier, for me at least.
Hey! I’m glad you got what you wanted!
Please send the email. I pay for Zendesk so I can keep track of customer issues and what not. PMs on here and Reddit just lead to people not getting what they need, and that’s not how I operate.
Drop me a line. I’ll get you squared away!

No. There was a bug earlier in the buy but it has since been resolved. What case / plate combo are you trying to order?
If you continue to get the issue, place your order, ignore the sold out thing at checkout and send me an email to orders@thekey.company and Ill get it resolved for you. I have to go home. Been at the office WAY too long today.

Yo! Absolutely man, I can see why it'd be way easier to keep track of several things from multiple customers via email/zendesk than PMs.
I'll reach out some time this weekend as said, very happy I managed to get the case I wanted right away - glad to see I still got it all these years later, big chunk of my life spent sniping Diablo 2 **** on d2jsp haha

Well that really sucks. I had a tanzanite blue in my cart, with an orange plate and it said the plate was out of stock. Cleared out my cart to get a different color and the blue case was gone. Checked a bit later with cocaine white and ran into the same problem. Now all the colors I want are gone, even though I tried several times to purchase. Pretty bummed about the whole situation.
Yeah, it sucks. Ill do my best to accommodate you. Email me at orders@thekey.company and let me know what you want, and Ill do what I can to accommodate you. Sorry for the troubles.

So are you going to get in more of the individual colors? They went fast!
I'm really happy to hear this is going so well! I can't even imagine how much work went into making this happen...
Oh man, when we first ran >Terminal_ we didnt have Zendesk, and Ill admit, we probably ticked a few people off. One of the reasons this company exists is because my partner and I wanted a company that was relatable, on the level, and actually provided stellar customer service. Zendesk is SO awesome for that. I wish it integrated into Reddit / GH. I mean, it actually could but it would be clunky as all hell.
Anyway, glad you got what you wanted! Sorry the shipping rates were higher than expected DHL raised their rates as of the 1st.
So are you going to get in more of the individual colors? They went fast!
They sure did. Some colors sold out in a matter of a minute or so. (pink, cocaine, tanzanite). I have so many requests for Tanzanite that I have to place another order for those right away. I have orders in with the shop for a few more additional colors as well. Its just the process is pretty time consuming, and the shop can only do so many. There will be more, I promise!

Thanks! I'll be looking out (wanted metallic grey myself).

Thanks! It was a ridiculous amount of work, I assure you. Lots of let downs along the way, screw ups, etc.
The good thing is I learned alot about product design, made some awesome friends and colleagues along the way, and it came to fruition! In all, Im extremely happy with the project. Means alot you took the time to chime and and pass on the praise!
