If it's wood, it's dyed stabilized wood, but I almost guarantee that it's acrylic.  You can find very similar looking blanks:

The R is something I've put on all of my caps since I started. Only 6 caps have ever gone out without the R and that was before I ever did a sale. It's possible I missed that operation but it's very unlikely.  Check your cap and let me know!

Nubbinator is right! The material is called inlace acrylester, it has very similar material properties to acrylic. I'll take the word "wooden" out of the post title.
