Keyboard of the Month - July - Nominations
« on: Thu, 03 August 2017, 14:15:52 »
So on a scale of 1-10, 1 being not a terrible person, and 10 being a terrible person, this month I am an 11. This is so late I can't even explain it. But it's here and we will roll with it.

Here is July's (yes I know it's August) nomination thread. Last year's winner was E3E with his hotswappable Alps Mira.

You know the rules by now, make sure you find a board that has been posted somewhere else on this forum in the month of July, and the three with the most +1s will make their way to the vote thread in 2 weeks time for us all to vote on! Good luck!

Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

I'd +1 this, but the post is dated second of August.  I'm happy to be corrected if it was first posted somewhere in July.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I posted it on July 31 according to my time zone in the x60 gb thread: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=82729.msg2467922#msg2467922

Is +1 ing my own board a thing?

Thanks to you and the others who have nominated the Gimp; I feel honored. I think it best, however, to postpone my nomination for another month.  It isn't quite complete and probably doesn't even qualify for consideration yet, plus I have a few other things to add to the project (what now?). Unfortunately, work demands have interrupted its progress and it will be a week or two before I can spend more time on it.

Thanks also for appreciating some of the unique features I incorporate in my boards; some of them wouldn't make sense for the typical keyboard user. My physical limitations have driven most of the functional decisions in the design. After that  I try to make something aesthetically pleasing out if it. I've been accused of trying to be be different for its own sake which couldn't be further from the truth—my oddness comes naturally. :)) :p

July was a busy month with plenty of boards to put up for "Numinations".

Felion's KBD75 also took my fancy, especially with that Godspeed set on it.

Have to say I'm not to excited about this year's fashion in aluminum keyboard cases.
Hopefully next year will bring a new style.

I generally hate all keycaps. Keycaps are for poofs. Real men touchtype on stems. Non-functional artisans are awesome, I use them for the ESC key ... escape is for cowards anyways, real men go frontal assault.
