Looking for Keycap Advice for Topre Realforce RGB
« on: Tue, 26 December 2017, 05:05:52 »
Hi there, I started getting into keyboarding pretty recently and I'm looking to try a new keycap set (or sets) for my Topre Realforce RGB (uses cherry mx stems).

I went from using Razer Greens, which I loved for many years, to Topre's electro-capacitive switches and I'm really enjoying them.

There are a couple keycap sets that I have my eye on but I'd like to hear what you guys think first.

Do certain keycaps work better with the Realforce RGB?
Where should I venture next in terms of keycaps?

It all comes down to what you find appealing, in terms of feel and appearance. I prefer to put SA keycaps on my RealForce RGB boards. Others prefer to put GMK caps on their boards. The fact that we’re talking about Topre switches doesn’t really matter, in my view. Just put your favorite MX-stemmed keycaps on and enjoy.

Are those keys backlit compatible?

Not really. SA and GMK keycaps are too thick to let any light through them.

I know the whole point to get Realforce RGB is to get other cool keycaps since it come with MX compatible stems.

However the stock keycaps is actually not bad though, they are thick double shot ABS keycaps (OEM Profile).

I own a Cherry keyboard with those keycaps on them and I quite like it.

But yes I'd imagine either GMK, SA profile or PBT keycaps might give the most "different" feels (whether that's good or bad comes down to preference).
