Is there a premium mouse, maybe made out of metal on the market ?
« on: Thu, 01 February 2018, 08:37:35 »
I know there are gamer mice, but what about those of us who enjoy finely crafted objects out of metal with a certain weight to them ? Is there a mouse for me on the market ?

I'm not sure if there are any, but I imagine metal would make a mouse too heavy and unwieldy.
Maybe they're waiting for gasmasks and latex to get sexy again.

The world has become a weird place.

I'd love a kustom mouse made of anodized aluminium.

Between shape and weight, it's a bit impractical to make a mouse from metal.
Not to mention the monetary investment to make it, which would be excessive, especially when you consider turnover on mouse designs.

That said, here's something to consider...
I know Aluminum seems premium, BUT, something people often overlook is that its not actually all that nice in your hand. Yes, it feels solid and it's not plastic (Samsung uses Polycarbonate!) but aluminum is highly over-rated. It usually results in sharper edges and if the room is slightly cold, it will feel cold when you first start using it in the morning and should it ever fall, besides damaging what it falls on, scratches or gouges can really be an issue, this happens with my Macbook Air and my keboards. I have to be very careful setting them on or against something for fear of them scratching the other item (which is surprisingly common!), and I've had other things ding the edges of the laptop, one created a nice metal sliver which needed to be ground off after it poked me one too many times. So be careful what you wish for.

I always imagine if I was in an earth quake.. annnnd I fell on something metal..  I'd rather have plastics for most small objects that may be pointy..

Has anyone still got an OreObject Sphere or an Intelligent-Design Titanium Mouse in stock? If so, that might be what you're looking for.

My reaction when looking up those two mice: "What will they come up with next?" (à la old Fruit Roll-Ups commercial)

Corsair does use metal on their mice.
However, a quality feel in the hand is achieved not with heavy materials that would make the mouse more difficult to use, but rather in the lack of rattling components when shaken.
That is also only one of many considerations such as fit in the hand, available buttons, switches, etc.
Go view Rocket Jump Ninja on YouTube as his mice reviews are top notch and there is no other equal to him.
