Hello old timers,
This is an interest check for add-on kits featuring some cool keycaps from vintage keyboards.
My goal is to bring these vintage keycaps to those who want to add a bit of personality to their board.
You can put them on Hineybeige, Classic Beige, Dolch R5, WOB, and etc. I hope you guys like it!

Absolutely loving the retro look of GMK CYL Vintage Keys, I’m all in! I’d seriously want to pick up every single kit.
Huge shoutout to mcmcmc for the effort and passion you're putting into this project and the community.

One small thing I personally miss is a System key, or even better, a Super key. I totally get that it doesn’t quite fit the retro aesthetic, but I’d still be super happy if it ended up being included somehow.

Either way, I’m definitely buying the kits!

there aren't that many NCR colored set out there (especially when compared to beige, wob, dolch) unfortunately so i wont be adding it.

removed prtsc, scroll, break & replaced with R2 insert home and R3 del end to replicate the OG

You’ve got the stock colors listed nicely. I think v1 red has less matching sets than RO2 (metaverse demonic lunar beta essentials red honey). Could be RO2 instead?

there are two red used for this - P3 & V1. P3 is used in snack pack, so it matches dolch, red alert, wob red cyrillic, handerbeit, etc. i aim for the more popular classic sets. V1 is used in 2000's to match the OG 2000 (it has a little orange tint in pictures i found, so i think it matches p good.)

Whilst I'd love to see F1–F30 kit à la the G80-0528, This is very, very nice and I will be purchasing the 2000's kit.

not many people have use for it imo. unlike s row that you can put it on your f row and it won't look weird.

yep, of course in case the mold exists already and it doesn't add like $10 per kit. I think it would look perfect on classic sets like wob with non stepped bottom mods.

Jeez, the GMK… They told “we need brand new molds” but their new ansi stabbed BAEs contains old vertical stab traces and even “holes” for vertical stab on the south side of inner wall

    • We need a fresh render with all the latest changes.
    • After that, we’ll send everything back to GMK for a new quote.
    • Depending on the price they give us, we might have to cut some molds/keys.

Kit changes
    • Banana kit: No more 10u. Stepped caps are now R4 and no LED.
    • 2000s kit: No R5 — those keys are now R4. S1–S12 caps will be UV top + UV front.

Current Update from CK:
    1.Banana kit – The adjustments that were shared earlier are final and will remain as they are.
    2.S keys – These will be done with UV printing, not doubleshot.
    3.R5 discussion (Banana + 2000s kits) – From CK conversion with GMK, they said that creating a new R5 mold would be extremely expensive. GMK are still using the original molds due to cost.

However, I asked if there’s a workaround: instead of a new mold, could we add R5 in the 2000s kit using UV print? This would let us offer the layout without going through the huge cost of new tooling.

It is a bummer that the stepped caps wont be r5… a lot of gmk beige gbs were specifically run with r5 and even though r4 can be picked up directly from gmks shop now I plan on using r5 on my boards and i am probably not the only one.

Might still pick up a set but most likely wont use those keys if run in r4.

Any desire to get the M keys from the CYL OG kit? With the 21XX just having finished GB, I'm sure you'd get tons of orders for them since most of those sets from the last CYL OG GB are out of stock.

I have to be honest it's really dissappointing how much this set keeps getting pared back from the ambitions of the IC. Losing 10u, R5, windowed keys, and now UV print for all those S keys...it just doesn't have the same instant appeal.

I thougt the major appeal of this set lay in all the new molds it would unlock for future projects in the community, particularly the development of a GMK 10u mold. The bannana bar is such a neat visuaul option for designers to incorporate into their keysets and boards, but we don't see more of it because the gold-standard keycap manu can't make it anymore. CK are an experienced vendor, clearly fans of vintage stuff, and have a decent amount of financial weight to throw behind a project like this, so I assumed you all were going into this with at least some rough idea about what the cost would be for tooling and a shared understanding about why the initial reception to this was so overhwhelmingly positive.

Please forgive me if I sound totally foolish. I just led myself into thinking the real pitch with this project was that CK and GMK were looking to invest in some cool new tooling as a capital expenditure to expand what designers can make even after this particular set runs. Based on the multiple rounds of back-and-forth betwen the stakeholders here, though, it seems that they are specifically interested in having this set stand on its own commercially.

I love novelty keys and vintage kit as much as the next guy, but I figured it would be obvious to everyone at the table for this project that a set like this as originally proposed would never, ever be popular enough to justify multiple major tooling investments on its own. So, now this all feels like a bait & switch. Like, if CK needed this to be commercially viable without them eating what can only be tens of thousands in tooling cost, is this not basically months of time wasted on quotes that were bound to be overbudget?
