Finally decided to introduced myself!
« on: Wed, 11 February 2015, 17:01:33 »
I bought my first mechanical keyboard about 3 years ago and I'm more interested than ever into learning about and owning more keyboards. I tried most Cherry but I've yet to try BS/Topre/Alps.

This place seems to be the best place to have actual discussions, so here I am.

Greetings from Canada!

Welcome to Geekhack!

BS is like MX green, if you've tried those.

Topre is difficult to describe - you'd really have to try them for yourself.

And there are all sorts of Alps switches, more than Cherry variants if I understand correctly.

Owning more keyboard will definitely drain your wallet, hence the term Wallethack ;)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
