Hello from the Show-Me state
« on: Wed, 29 April 2015, 14:17:54 »
Long time lurker here, recently purchased my first mech board, the Quickfire Rapid-i. Figured I'd join to see what kind of mods I can blow all my money on.

Welcome to Geekhack!

QFRi - a worthy followup to the QFR, or so I've heard.  My QFR just keeps on going :)

What sort of mods were you thinking of?  There's all sorts of things you can do - replace all the keycaps, just the modifiers (although non-matching profiles might prove troublesome), some artisan keycaps, an aluminium case, painting/plastidipping the existing case ...
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Welcome to geekhack! There's a wealth of mods you do to your KB that you can easily find on here. What kind of switches did you get?

Thanks for the welcome! I actually sent the QFR-i back due to dead LEDs... already. When I get my refund I plan on purchasing a WASD Code TKL with browns. As far as getting new keycaps, I've got so many ideas in mind, my wallet is going to hurt. I'd like to try and find a grey/real or grey/purple set, something different than the norm.

Welcome. Sucks about your QFRi.

If you want purple, you can test out the new JT Keycaps:

Although, I doubt they'll be "different than the norm" considering the #hype and price for a thick doubleshot set.
My wife I a also push her button . But now she have her button push by a different men. So I buy a keyboard a mechanicale, she a reliable like a Fiat.
