Pimp Your Filco contest idea
« on: Sat, 10 May 2014, 19:50:52 »
We're thinking of running a contest called Pimp Your Filco, where we ask for pictures of modified Filco keyboards and give prizes to the best ones. The modifications could be simple (new keycaps, KOBO covers) or complex (cable mods, switch changes).

What do you guys think of the idea? And what would be a good prize?

Any keyboard!!!

How about any stock keyboard thats been modded?

So I buy a stock board, change the case to a fancy metal case, add a ti plate, put on stickered, lubed, and gold springs with clear tops, then add on some fancy caps and put on a custom cable. And then add a programmable controller. Everything visible is not stock and has been modded. Even some non visible parts are modded.

Sounds like a boring contest. Just let the customs join in

Customs are already custom, they aren't really modded they were built like that. My .02

So if I buy a custom and then modify it later, that counts?

IDK dude, quit trying to change everything ;)

Customs are already nice, this thread was about making stock boards nice. Not that I have either (modded or custom)

As a Filco owner, I support this.

Realforce EK45 (Silenced)  |  Realforce 87UW (45g)  |  Realforce 87UWS (Variable)
Filco MJ2 TKL (Cherry Clears)  |  Phantom 87 (78g Gateron Clears)  |  Phantom 86 (67g Zealios)

OK, glad to see that there's a fair amount of interest. We would limit it to Filco keyboards, as that's our bread and butter, and we want to have a nice gallery of suitably customised Filco keyboards at the end of it! In terms of prizes, we were thinking of a MiniLa, as a lot of people still haven't had a chance to try one. We won't give away a Leopold (as suggested by the1onewolf) as we don't carry those :D

Nice! My Filco (bought at The Keyboard Company of course) would take part, but when does this start? Now it's disassembled and there are still a lot of caps from different group buys missing.

It'll probably start fairly shortly (as soon as I have the prize confirmed) and then be open for a few weeks, at least.

Cool, looking forward to seeing what people submit to the contest. I'm actually working on a Filco mod right now so I guess I'll have to take more pictures :D.
