(Critique welcome) My take on a wooden case

With the lid it seems like a very good case for travel. However, the lid doesn’t hold on by itself and 40% might be a better travel size. Also, the keyboard lies completely flat. So, I made some minor tweaks.







The lid is held on by neodymium magnets




The case now features two foldout legs to give it a 7° angle.




When folded up the left leg closes the USB port and protects it from damage or dirt.




Smaller pegs on the legs slot into the lid. This way the legs cannot fold out while the lid is on.

So what do you guys think?

That's Awesomely creative. Do the legs lock into the stand position? And if so, what did you use to get it to lock/release the latches.

THX! For now, it is just the angle of the legs and the weight of the keyboard that locks them in the downwards position. Yes, that might not be sufficient…

This is a really cool idea! For the legs, you may be able to add a couple small bumps to the profile where the pin rides across that could help lock them into place. Getting that geometry can be a little tricky, but you shouldn't need much to keep the legs in either position.

It is 8mm on each side. I' afraid it might become a bit fragile if thinner. I definitely wouldn't go under 6mm.

That is a good idea.  Maybe with a spring so that it is easier to get the friction just right.

So, I made some updates. I don't know if it is a good idea to put all magnets on one side but at this size the neodymium magnets should be plenty strong.

Are you going to sell thousands?  Probably not, it is a niche product.

Will you find 10 or 20 other people interested so there's a chance of getting them made?  Possibly - that's what the Interest Check section is for.  You will need to work out how/where they will be made and get an estimated price before anyone will commit though.
