How do I get in on this group buy? I'm a total noob... not sure how this all works.
Right now it's still in Interest Check. Once everything has been tweaked and finalized, it will go into the Group Buy phase where you can join in.

Typically once that happens, this thread will be updated and a new thread will be created in the Group Buys and Preorders forum with the details.

Just keep an eye on this thread and gok's Instagram (https://instagram.com/gok101/) for updates.

will we be notified when this thread is updated?
Yes, whenever there is a major update, it will go in the update log as well as the subject title and I will make a post saying what the update is about.

Are there any plans to release this in a polycarb or acrylic version?? And if not, are you planning on making the files to the pieces public in the future? Thanks!! Looks amazing btw

No plans for polycarbonate or acrylic versions. The only parts that I'd consider releasing are the plates and the logo.

I've considered aluminium but not brass because that is way too stiff. I've got aluminium plates but I like the sound of polycarbonate more.

Would you consider offering them, regardless of stiffness? I think that is one point of a keyboard people differ a ton in preference  :thumb:

It would be nice to at least have this option. Alu plate imo makes a keyboard sound more shrill and tinny, so I would much rather want to try brass. I don't really understand this stiffness argument. If stiffness is bad then why not half-plate or no plate, or an even thinner plate? Are we looking to strike a perfect balance, relative to what? I understand that this is made according to the creator's personal preferences, but this isn't a 15 board raffle sale - this is an unlimited run that potentially could land in hundreds of hands.

I don't mean to come off as an entitled prick, but why should I drop $400 or more on something which I assume caters to a minority? The easy answer is of course that no one is forcing me to buy it, but it would be interesting to hear some arguments. By all means maybe PC plate is the way to go and I just haven't seen the light.

That's why he will release the plate file and everyone can make their own plate with whatever material they like.

More to the point, people should just let a keyboard designer design their keyboard to meet the aesthetics, sound and feel that they prefer. That should apply regardless of whether it's a 15 board raffle sale or an unlimited group buy.

Furthermore, this case construction is unique, so asserting that brass would sound/feel better than any other material is pure conjecture.

(...) people should just let a keyboard designer design their keyboard to meet the aesthetics, sound and feel that they prefer.
Such a statement seems a bit counter-intuitive to the nature of interest checks, depending on how absolute you are. I get it, cater to the masses and it's generic. Cater to yourself and it's niche. At the end of the day people vote with their money.

If I did assert such a thing then obviously it's conjecture. I have no clue, that's why I'm asking. Every case is unique to some degree, yet some offer a multitude of options. However, reading through the conversation again leads me to believe that there are some technical issues rather than aesthetic, that leads the author to dismiss brass. So I'll leave it at that, and carry on looking forward to future updates.

Heck, I'd much rather prefer a groupbuy with as little options as possible, than one where everyone gets their personal preference fullfilled. Much less variables for **** to go wrong.

That said, I do hope the white color happens, I've still got SA By The Sea waiting to go on a white keeb and this would be perfect.

On the subject of color: I'm really hoping for blue-gray. It goes so well with beige keysets, and not a lot of options as far as I've seen on the market.

If I were to purchase a GMK keycap set for this board, would the base kit suffice? Or would I need to add on any extra caps? I'm asking due to the unique layout of the board. Thanks!

That would depend on the keys in the base kit.

In general I wouldn't think you'd have an issue. Its mainly just the right shift you'd want to watch for and make sure you've got the bottom row layout that you need.

Yes even the most basic GMK kits will cover this layout.

I'd estimate it to be Q1 2020 but it's dependant on whether I'm happy with the new prototype or not.

I'm not the designer, but since the mounting plate isn't actually attached to anything but the PCB, then I believe this should be extremely easy to run plateless.
