not if you want to reload while crouching forward and to the left.

However, I'd really like to see someone playing through Dark Souls with a Model M as the only input device.

I mean, it's not horrible, but it's not going to be an improvement on any board you already own for gaming.

You can game on it, and I haven't had any issues doing so, but they could pop up because it only has 2 key rollover and it's got fairly heavy higher profile keys so you move a little slower. It's very much a typist's keyboard, not a gamer's keyboard.

But, again, it's usable.

If you're doing FPS, no, hysteresis is an problem (the key resets at a different point than activation, making tap and nudge problematic).
2 key rollover is a problem, this is more of an issue in FPS than people realize.
If you use a mic the noise is a problem.

I played Battlefield on one, it's doable, it's just not optimal.

Anything below 6 key roll over is not suitable for gaming.

If you play Nethack, it's the best.

Honestly it just isn't that great. I have no problem with casual light gaming (anything solo, or not long session), but anything with multiplayer or any kind of competition/higher difficulty is much better suited to a different keyboard. Personally I prefer heavy weighted keys, so that's not the issue even. I have a keyboard with MX Blacks for gaming that I swap in (that's also tenkeyless for more mouse room) and that results in a marked difference in gaming performance. As others have said, the issue really is with the hysteresis.

I think that everyone has their preferences when it comes to a keyboard for gaming. I, for one, didn't like the IBM MODEL M. It's one of the first keyboards I didn't like how it felt. I got HyperX Alloy FPS / FPS Pro a few months ago, and it's the best keyboard I've ever had. I got it because it's the best-rated keyboard for CSGO. It's the game I play the most, and I've become good at it. I play online all the time, and I have to have the best keyboard too. I get a lot of skins in the game, which I can sell later on skinsmonkey.com (https://skinsmonkey.com/). It's not a bad way to earn some extra money :D
