Freaky idea... somewhat keyboard related

(1/1)

So, I've got a cheap typewriter I got from Goodwill.

The shift mechanism is messed up, and I broke one of the ribbon tensioners trying to open it up to get to the adjustment for the shift mechanism. (It still seems to type OK, though, except for shifted characters being lower than regular characters.)

Anyway, I saw how the thing works... it's got a motor, driving the typewriter guts with a belt.

So, instead of running it off the AC motor, why not run it off of something a little... different?

Like, for instance, a weed whacker motor?

Jeez, that'd be funny.

I think it'd actually work fine, except for typamatic keys (it might fire so rapidly that the mechanism can't keep up,) and for carriage returns (the carriage return mechanism uses a string.) Of course, that could be remedied with a pulley setup to get the RPM to around stock.

You have WAY too much time on your hands...
