I have question about HHKB. Is it possible to toggle function layer, without keeping "Fn" constantly held down? Say you want to use the arrows "indefinitely". Like what a Caps Lock key does.

I guess that's a "No"...   ^-^

Have some patience. I'm sorry you didn't get your answer in under 5 minutes. I don't know off hand. I asked jdcarpe but he said he's not sure.

Didn't mean to be rude.
I was guessing "no", and expected to get shot down fairly quick.   :D

Does anyone know where I can purchase just the connectors that plug into the motherboard for the front panel connections?  Looking for the ones for both LED's and the power and reset switches.

Could also use a little assistance to find a good looking rocker switch in Momentary-Off-Momentary flavor.  Would prefer non-illuminated varieties, and an 8 pin panel mount connector male and female x2 for each.

Thrift stores and dumpster diving for case carcasses is worthwhile if you have not stripped these things out of your own obsolete cases.

I keep a large ziplock bag around full of odd wires and connectors that I salvaged before throwing my old stuff into the garbage.

Dumbass question.. Where can I find some good containers for lube within the UK? Preferrably wide and not tall. Must be resealable.

Trust me I've tried googling but nothing good has come up. My google-fu is weak!

What should I use to clean the casing of a Model M? All the guides I found are about taking it apart and cleaning the insides and keys. I just want to wipe down the outside.

This would work great but i have given away all my old cases to friends with stock dells or hp's that desperately needed better cooling.

Ok I know that I have seen it somewhere here, but I can't find the thread anymore.  Where is that thread that had the mod for MX switches into a Razer Nostromo.

Melvang

I found this thread but I'm not sure if I've seen the swap that you might be referring to.

I found that one but i thought there was one that was just a swap from the rubber domes to MX switches without the complete rebuild.

The consensus seems to be a no. I'm not sure if there is any FN toggles on any board.

Water and soap and a washcloth. Or isopropyl alcohol. Or wet-naps.

Edit - Here's one with Thick red PBT and keep in mind the Poker LEDs are not as bright as those of the Pure.

I am thinking of the PBT group buy and how will it fit my QF TK or future keyboard (will keep looking at CM storm's boards if they release a backlit or fullsize green)... If possible, how does the light from QF TK compare to those of Pure and Poker?

I'm really not sure about how they'll fit with a QF TK, but it looks like you'll have problems with almost the entire bottom row. Also, no idea about the LEDs on the QF TK vs. the Pure. The Pure LEDs definitely get much brighter than those on the Poker.

Anyway, Nezumi let me borrow her Pure, so here's a meh photo of Imsto blue, red, gray, and white with green LEDs.

I got my Raindrop set today and immediately put it on my Poker. I decided to take the white spacebar off to see what the blue spacebar looked like instead. I used the same method I always had to remove the spacebar; pulling both alt keys and gently wiggling it it out with my fingers, but the stem holes on the spacebar were so tight that I popped the stabilizers off the board. I was able to get them back on easily, but I know I'll be putting this set on my Filco eventually and I'd like to know how I could avoid removing the stabilizers again if possible. Anyone have a better method?

Can someone do a similar picture on a Ducky Shine 2 or other keyboard with reversed switches (LEDs at the top)? I'm wondering if putting the LED right under the keycap legend makes it readable in the dark, or if the printing just doesn't have enough contrast when backlit.

Which one for a gaming keyboard? Red or brown?

I don't want blues or blacks.
I like the red.
The brown is close enough to red, I could do either.

I know it's subjective. But I wouldn't mind an "opinion" of whether "most" people "might" prefer the bump for gaming.  ;)

I play video games on Blues and Whites. Last night I played BorderLands 2 with an SSK. I personally don't find that there's such a thing as a switch that is better suited for gaming. Which is why I keep saying it's subjective and am hesitant to answer.

That being said, many heavy FPS players have said that Blacks and Reds are nice to use when playing FPS because the bumps and clicks in Tactile and Clicky switches messes with doubletapping. Since I typically play things like ARPGs, retro video games, and RTS, I can't verify this. I know I said I played BL2 but I don't really consider that competitive or hardcore FPS.

If you think the tactile bump would be nice for gaming, maybe it will work for you.

Blue click bugs me. Black seems a bit heavy.
TBH, this is only based on my wasd sampler kit. I'll give Black the benefit of the doubt, but that click...

My games are mostly FPS. I could choose to run with this, or meet you "halfway" with Brown.
Probably I'll run with it, get some nice O-rings.

Like I said before, there's no need to meet me at all. You play on what what's most comfortable for you. I personally hate Browns and Reds so I won't be playing games on them ever. And o-rings cause the bottom out and actuation to change so it might not improve your gameplay experience.

This is called a joke :P. And again, it's personal preference. Blacks feel nice and I'm sure lubing them feels amazing. My custom will have Greens or Clears.

If you live near a MicroCenter, I recommend you trying out a full board with Blacks on it. A switch is a nice start but you won't really know until you try a full board. ^__^

your fingers will acclimatize to most switches, if you give it a chance.

that said, switch preference questions can't be answered by another person, just go with your gut feeling. Or, do what most people who come to GH end up doing eventually - get one of each. If you have everything and end up sticking to one board predominantly, you'd know that's the board for you.

alternatively, pray to the shark god for an answer.

No I really was just asking seriously :p

I've seen quite a few kmacs and other customs and quite a few have lubed and stickered blacks, I was just curious if there was a reason. :o

I've got a board with vintage blacks and I'm probably going to use it as a guinea pig when I jump off into soldering, modding etc. I'm considering turning it into a switch test board.  8)

But I'm still really liking these clears on my ducky, but now after using it for a little while I'm wishing I still had a few of the other boards I had before around just to try to compare side by side  ;D

your fingers will acclimatize to most switches, if you give it a chance.

that said, switch preference questions can't be answered by another person, just go with your gut feeling. Or, do what most people who come to GH end up doing eventually - get one of each. If you have everything and end up sticking to one board predominantly, you'd know that's the board for you.

alternatively, pray to the shark god for an answer.

lol all of this^

So whats with all these customs with lubed and stickered blacks? Do most people who get customs play games then??

This is called a joke :p . And again, it's personal preference. Blacks feel nice and I'm sure lubing them feels amazing. My custom will have Greens or Clears.

I'm honestly not sure why they're so popular but maybe they're just awesome. I've never tried lubed Blacks myself. Maybe Blacks are the new Greens?

I laughed but there's only issue with this statement. Asking the GirlShark for guidance should always be option one :P

Lights off

Can someone do a similar picture on a Ducky Shine 2 or other keyboard with reversed switches (LEDs at the top)? I'm wondering if putting the LED right under the keycap legend makes it readable in the dark, or if the printing just doesn't have enough contrast when backlit.

I don't have a Ducky but I think if I flip the caps upside down I can get the same effect. I don't think it will be that visible. But we'll try it later unless someone beats me to it first.

If you live near a MicroCenter, I recommend you trying out a full board with Blacks on it. A switch is a nice start but you won't really know until you try a full board. ^__^

I don't have anything cool like that near me.

Okay how's this?

Our shark, who art in geekhack,
hallowed be thy fin.
Thy Keyboard come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in the sea
Give us this day our daily keyboards.
And forgive us our money spending,
as we forgive those who use rubberdomes.
Yadda yadda...

Then I ask about the switches and stuff?

always glad to amuse you, Jocelyn :D

but seriously, if anyone told me that I should get one of everything a year or two ago, I'd think that they were crazy I would never do it *dejectedly stares at the cupboard I keep my boards in*. At least I haven't gone over to the other side yet. The other side meaning topre heaven (or is that topre hell? :-\)

It's different now. Now that I have seen the truth - ---- - *cue dramatic pause* don don don.

I realized that I'd already became one of the crazies. I finally found my one true board and switch. True story.

p.s. I thought leaving the striked-out parts would be more entertaining. And also true.

If he is just wanting a picture of the ducky shine II lit up in the dark I'm sure I can do that....but not until the boss leaves :p
