Including wiki photos in geekhack.org postings
« on: Mon, 26 November 2012, 14:55:27 »
As the wiki becomes more populated, images and other files will be there instead of here.  And people will want to include some of those images in postings here.  This is already possible, but it must be done with some care -- or it just won't work.

Here is how to include an image from the wiki into a geekhack.org posting.

A. Steps to take on the wiki if you have a login:
a1 ) Upload the image.
a2 ) Click on the image after the upload is complete.
a3 ) The image should be displayed alone with no wiki elements at all.  Copy this URL from the address bar.

A. Step to take if you don't have a login.
a1 ) Find the image page you want.
a2 ) Click on the image.
a3 ) The image should be displayed alone with no wiki elements at all.  Copy this URL from the address bar.

B. Steps to take on geekhack.org:
b1 ) Open an edit window by clicking [ Reply ] or [ Quote ].
b2 ) Position the cursor wherever you want the image to appear.
b3 ) Click the [Insert Image] icon (above the left-most smiley face).
b4 ) Paste the URL from step a3 between the [ img ] and [ /img ] tags.
b5 ) OPTIONAL: Add a width=nnn format code to the first [ img ] tag like this: [ img width=300 ].
b6 ) Press [Preview] to preview your post.  NOTE:  Preview will seem to work even if you got step a3 wrong.
b7 ) Press [Post] to submit the post.  It should work as expected.

Example:

I like keyboards and case modding.  Everything about a computer should be silent -- except the KEYBOARD!
