1. INFORMATION

- Top housing: Custom nylon blend BBN top housing

- Spring: dual stage 63.6g (builtbynim recommended/Researched) or 68g gold plated spring

2. PROGRESS/ RESULTS

2019-2021

-Builtbynim linear switch was designed using client commission data and personal switch sound preferences to produce a unique sound profile and a snappy feel.

12/08/2021

-Initial prototyping done with JWK and TECSEE,
-TECSEE manufacturing was chosen for v2 prototypes.

01/09/2021- (testing phase)

-Dual stage springs tested for spring sound stock vs lubed (105g0)
disclaimer* due to the lack of research and current developments in dual stage springs, there are some spring sound in stock form*

Results: spring sound little to non-existent with 105g0 application in bag lube form.

-Dual stage spring characteristics tested on switch housing lubed with thick 205g0

Results: due to the snappiness and higher rebounding properties of the dual stage spring, switches retained their snappy and forceful upstroke even after a thick 205g0 application. 205g0 application increased the "thockky" low pitch sound of the switch while remaining snappy. (205g0 recommended for modification).

(1:Opblack, 2:Lavenders, 3:NK creams 4: builtbynim dual stage spring)

276796-4

06/09/2021- (testing phase)

-BBN (builtbynim) switches v2 tested against popular switches
BBN vs lavenders, milky yellows, opblack, marshmallows, banana splits (all switches used were lubed by 205g0 on housing (top+bottom only), 105g0 on springs and tested on actylic switch tester)

Results:
smoothness/scratchiness: similar to lavenders and banana splits, smoother than milky yellows, marshmallows and opblacks
sound profile: Unique sound profile, deeper tone than lavenders, opblacks, milky yellows, marshmallows, and banana splits on acrylic tester

(1:Opblack, 2:Lavenders, 3:NK creams, 4:Builtbynim stem)

this is interesting, to say the least. what are the actuation and bottom-out distances with the (very) long pole stem?

It looks like the travel distance will be very short.

Interesting idea :)

Looks like a Feijoa fruit tree in the first pic: Feijoa would be a much better name for the switch imo ™®© ;D

It looks like the travel distance will be very short.

it will have a short travel distance.
However, it is very similar to NK creams in that aspect, because of the dual stage spring giving somewhat of a higher resistance in the mid stage of the press, the shorter travel distance feels sharp and comfortable to type for long time periods.

i really like that idea as well! maybe if a large number of people will prefer a true name i might actually host a naming competition!

I'm pretty sceptical that you can achieve a "unique...feel" with a linear switch, just by tweaking the housing plastics and slightly reducing the travel distance. Linear is linear. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though.

i dont think its gonna be a complete different experience but what im trying for is a difference in sound profile and the stem retuen feel!, just a bit different from all the mainstream offerings from jwk and cherry ;)

at the end of the day it is still a linear, but what im hoping to achieve is a difference in sound profile and a difference in stem return feel! i will upload the spring compression data soon!!
