There’s absolutely no way this is gonna be sub $300... I would be surprised if it was sub $400 to be honest.

given the rise of affordable options, I don't think I would spend $300 or more on a 60/65 keyboard, unless it's from key cult or Rama and has impeccable anode

Not trying to be rude but the Polaris is being run through KBDFans and is priced as such. This board is obviously more geared towards the luxury market and I'm sure will be priced accordingly so.

Didnt we just have issues with kbdfan ran switch opener quality designed by ai03? Kbdfan manufacturing is not top tier, it is budget. Pricing reflects as such.

Well, technically kbfans dont manu anything. They are just a shop that work as a proxy and shipping, so the designer dont run all the GB process itself. The problem with the switch openers as ai03 said was that the manu ****ed his measures, they didnt follow the designs exactly. He was really upset

My understanding is kbdfan shops the manufacturing across his factory contacts. Hence to me its kbdfans Manu. Did ai03 shop and secure his own manufacturing? Asking as I dont know the full background on how the supplu chain was secured. I do know that there is not a high regard to the manufacturing that kbdfan works with.

I think it's great that we all have so many options in basically every layout and at every price. There are quite a few projects I'm following closely and planning on joining, or have already joined, at both low price points and higher price points as well.

Specifically for this board, our main focus was on the design and engineering of the board and its feature set. Furthermore, we chose to go with suppliers who are more expensive, but offer consistency and high, repeatable quality.

What this means, unfortunately, is that the price will reflect this. While we will not release final pricing until everything is confirmed, I will say that the Iron165 SE will be priced around other high-end, premium offerings.

For reference, Dixie Mech just released Bauer pricing (Aluminum kit = $460, Brass Kit = $560). I'm guessing IRON165 will be priced similarly.

They are only doing 20 kits also, so high price is expected

well, the NR65, Polaris60. anyways, I don't think this GB is going to be for me.

Edit: doesn't the mk community really praise kbdfans for their tofu case? Anyways, I've heard horror stories of Korean Kustoms and good QC with Chinese keeb.
I really don't think the price reflects the quality.

I think many would agree that most of the stuff that Kbdfans makes are good for the price, but if you want better anodization, machining, materials, etc. you're going to have to pay more for those things. Sure, not everything that is priced high is necessarily better quality, but in order to get better quality you will have to pay more usually.

I personally love my Acrylic Tofu, but I'm in on this because I love the design and I want a more premium option that will hopefully deliver on its promises of being a great quality product.

There's a place for every product in this community.

While KBDFans produce brilliant products, their anode and finishing is what you expect to get at that price. It's a level or two below the Keycults/RAMA/TGRs. You need to see what keycult refer to as B stock as that stuff will sell as A+ stock in a lot of KBDfans' GBs. So the price you pay for luxury products is the impeccable QC and finish quality.

Will you provide typing sound comparing SE with FE version? Apart from aesthetic factor, I would like to know about acoustic factor as well.  :thumb:

Yes, shipping will be separate and depend on where you live.  Shipping from Cannon Keys will mean that NE will be cheaper than say CA.

When the group buy launches we will do the raffle for the FE most likely the day before the SE goes on sale.  So for those that miss the FE they can still have option to try for the SE.  This will most likely happen in September.

Any idea on how long the FE raffle window will be open for? For example, will it be like keycults 10 min windows or something much longer?

Sometimes I look at expensive kits like Wilba's Thermal (which is still "just" $360 BTW) or the Keycult and think: "Ouch my wallet but yeah I can see why. Fair enough." (After-market price notwithstanding).

This? I dunno. Compared to contemporary keyboard kits, I'm yet able to see why this one is way over $400 yet.

Exactly. The FE has a representing price for the materials chosen alongside the scarcity, not so much with the SE.
