See here.

NOTE: this is likely just the presale price - after they get in stock the price will likely increase to match the white 86U. Get 'em now!

Be sure to get the Red ESC key.  Otherwise the 86U (last years model) is kinda lame looking.

Too bad SW 4 doesn't do that Firmware update thingamabob.

Pfft. It's awesome, but the red esc makes it super awesome.

I'd probably spring on that offer if I'd live in the US. Phew...

I would be tempted if it were the 87U.  Not so much otherwise. The 103UW is tempting, but I don't need another.  I don't even use a PC at home. My phone, maybe, but no PCs.

No virtual numpad.
No lock lights.

That ain't gonna happen. Don't listen to Ripster and ItlnStln, the additional features are not a big deal at all. The 87U was a limited time thing and is now only available in Asia.

It depends.  The lock lights are no big issue; I can take 'em or leave 'em.  The numpad, OTOH, is huge.  That is definitely lost functionality beween the two SKUs.

In the photo of the black 86U it looked like it did. Hrmmmm.
Guess we will have to wait until someone gets one to know for sure!

I changed back the wiki entry since we don't know for sure. Unless someone with an 86UB says otherwise, I'll assume no LEDs in the caps lock & numpad keys. Sorry for the confusion!

Oh dear, this is a serious test of my willpower.. I have purchased both a Filco Brown & an HHKB in the last couple of months, but the black Realforce is very, very tempting.

I would justify it as my work keyboard, except that's how I justified the last one. Buying this would mean shelving or selling one of these that I have... Sigh, never easy having an expensive habit.

Can anyone comment to the difference in feel between the RF boards with variable weight keys versus the all 55g version?  I am very tempted to pick this up, but am worried I would prefer the uniform 55g keys over the variable weighted keys.

Can anyone speak to this?  I am currently using a HHKB pro and have a filco with browns.  If I decide to get the Realforce I think I might sell my Filco.  I got it along with many others from PCHome and have barley used it since its arival.  Not to say I dont like it, I just prefer the Torpe switch.

The only problem I'm having with this is deciding whether to pre-order 1 or 2. I thought that sleeping on it last night would help, but it didn't. I still want 2, and that would pretty much wipe out my keyboard budget.

u should ask yourself, do you really need 2 keyboards sitting around looking pretty? If the answer is yes, you've been here too long.

I have a 103U-UW already, and I wasn't sold on the Topre switches initially (preferred buckling spring and Cherry blues). The Topre feel has grown on me, though, and now I think I like them better than everything else. Plus, the tenkeyless form factor is my favorite, and black is awesome.

I guess you could say that I like the black-on-black action of the lettering on the keycaps. And hey, if I end up buying 2, that'll only bump my collection up to 9 keyboards, not 12. I've been selling off some inventory as of late.

And that's what I'd normally do, except that I don't really trust our cleaning crew here (not that they'd steal it, just that they'd mess it up somehow). I'm using a $100 Das Keyboard at work, but I'm not sure I'd want to leave a $200+ Topre here. Too many things that could go wrong, if you ask me.

In for 1..... ugh, the wallet is moaning....

To make it up to my wallet I must sell the HHKBP2, I really don't like the layout.
FS: Barely used (4 hours maybe) HHKBP2 Grey
Keyboards: Realforce 86UB (work), Deck KBA-CBL82 (home, plan to mod to ghetto reds), Compaq MX11800 (will probably be the donor for the ghetto red springs), APC MX11900, Cherry G84-4100, Dell AT101W.

Yea but since I sold my 103UB 55g I have a Thinkpad at home without a mechanical keyboard...
I'm also wrestling with the idea of selling said Thinkpad and getting a docking station + second monitor...
Tough decisions are tough!

EDIT: I bit the bullet on this one too!

Just got an order confirmation email from EliteKeyboards that didn't have the word "backorder" in it. The first order confirmation email said I ordered 2 x SE05C0 Realforce 86U Tenkeyless (White/Gray) and it said "backorder" next to the order number. The latest one is corrected to say 2 x SE05C0 Realforce 86UB Tenkeyless (Black/Dark Gray). Guess that means they're shipping soon?

Never received a shipping notification email, so I guess the pre-order was for naught. It's a shame, too---I paid extra for 2-day shipping with hopes of them shipping today and me receiving them on Friday. Now they probably won't be here until next week.

I've never tried a Topre switch and I have a really hard time shelling out $230 for what is (in my mind) a fancy rubber dome with sliders.  Designed very well, yes, but still...

I recommend strong Cree flashlights if you are not a touch typist.  However if you have Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) you should have lots of bright light anyway.

i call fake on this because if that were a real lightsaber i don't think you can impale someone and hold them up like that. That is unless he impaled him and is holding him up with the force.

The white one was the same price when it came out (or maybe 225). Shortly after it started shipping, the price went up. That's why I predict the same will happen with the 86UB.

yeah i didn't mean that the key surface itself is shiny, but i feel like the edges of the keys are sharper than other keyboards so they wear down quicker.  and a shiny spacebar thing bugs me no matter the brand

The quality of Topre keys is second to none - I would highly doubt that they would wear down quicker than other types of keys. And really, any keyboard will have a shiny spacebar SOME day. :D

i agree with you they are second to none, i'm not saying that theyre not nice.  What i'm saying is that the keys feel like they have sharper edges to me, and that alone in my experience with my 87U means that they show wear quicker (on the edges of the keys) than other KBs.

obviously stuff wears down the more you use it, so SOME day every KB will show a shiny spacebar...but it's easier to see on a black keyboard.  not sure how you can argue with that.

Those Topre 86Us truly suck.  The Special Limited Time Offer Edition 87U are the true RealForces.

There's really nothing that sucks about them actually. You're just jealous because you paid full price (nearly $300) for your 87U, and you have to justify it somehow. The additional features on the 87U hardly matter! Lol. It ain't a Ducky, so don't say it suckys.

Panda.  You were supposed to keep the WW Buying Guide Wiki a secret.

I get the distinct feeling this thread, the PChome thread, and the WW Buying Guide Wiki means I won't get a Christmas card from Majestouch this year and will lose my EKB Fanboi badge.

ok well i'm flying to korea to meet mr.leopold and he assured me that he will gift me a 87u silent in exchange for some undetermined services which will be determined once i arrive in pyongyang.

I just got this 86u in the mail and I think I am now really in love with the Topre.  I have the 103UB 55g weight one and this variable weighted one surely is night and day to me.  I feel I have rather sensitive hands and the fact that not every key is friggin 55g, is a relief for me.  I believe the 55g is going up for sale sometime next week for me.  Anyone else got this keyboard yet? thoughts?

A ****poo? The realforce is strong with this one.

With current exchange rates the 87U would be quite a bit more than what the 86UBs are going for during this sale:)

Majestouch, you magnificent bastard! I'm a victim of the "newly available" 86UB. Now, anyone wants a good deal on a brand new (I've opened the box but that's about it) Happy Hacking Professional 2 (Dark Gray) ?

Please let us know if it has LEDs.  I have a feeling it's unchanged from the 86U.

I will (if its directed to me), but since I'm in Canada, it will be weeks (with the holidays and typically slow postal service) before I get it.

Plus I was already supposed to send you pictures of shinny Steelseries keys and never did, so I would not trust me if I were you!

Got mine yesterday. So far, it feels crisper than my Realforce 103U, but that's probably just because it hasn't been broken in yet. The dark gray letting is awesome---dark enough to disappear and look badass, but just enough contrast to see it if you need to peek to find a symbol or something.

So, the 103U is now permanently on work duty (found my cubicle key so that I can lock it up at night), and I'm using one 86UB at home while I decide what I want to do with the other one. Most likely it'll stay in the box as a hot spare until I need it.

Also, the packaging from EliteKeyboards was meticulous. The shipping box was probably a little bigger than it needed to be, but each keyboard box was wrapped in its own piece of kraft paper. How luxurious. Overall, I'm very pleased with the transaction, but for almost $500, I'd be raising hell if anything was slightly off.

Received my 103 today. The 35(0)g keys have a surprisingly soft landing, was completely unexpected. So far I'm very happy with the keyboard, only because it feels completely different than the all 55g one I own. Under first impressions, I feel every Topre owner should try both. The 55g has a completely unique feel from any other keyboard I have tried, while the variable weight (though lighter and more pleasant to type on) feels more like a normal rubber dome. This isn't to say I do not like the variable weight, just that the 55g board has a more unique feel.

This is after only using the keyboard for about an hour.

edit: I feel like this post shouldn't be here...o well.
Keyboards:

That's what happened last time with the white 86U. The price went up several says after the presale was over without warning. Since there was no way to know how many days it would take, I wanted to warn people that it would likely go up.

So don't "rip" me up about it ;)
