No Choice! One keyboard! That's it!
« on: Mon, 19 January 2015, 10:33:25 »
I know quite a few of you have quite an extensive keyboard collection.  But then the hammer falls, and you can only use one keyboard for the rest of your days.

What would you decide on?  Ouch!

No turning back or being wishy-washy.

My choice would be (suprisingly) my IBM 51G8572 (White Label) Manufactured for IBM by Lexmark.  It's my favorite keyboard.  A hint of nostalgia to me.  But then again I'm kinda biased toward one line of keyboards.

One pair of shoes is all that you will be allowed to own.
"The Trump campaign announced in a letter that Republican candidates and committees are now expected to pay “a minimum of 5% of all fundraising solicitations to Trump National Committee JFC” for using his “name, image, and likeness in fundraising solicitations.”
“Any split that is higher than 5%,” the letter states, “will be seen favorably by the RNC and President Trump's campaign and is routinely reported to the highest levels of leadership within both organizations.”"

Buckling springs. 122-key Model F or M with ANSI mod. But any IBM buckling spring would be acceptable.

Anything else is illogical.

Model F for sure, either AT or SpaceUnsaver. As long as it's a decent layout and not too wide (F122 is too wide for me, except for gaming).

Kingsaver. As much as I love cup rubber, I don't think I'd miss it enough to constitute keeping the hhkb over it. It even has King in he name.

I would have to go full-sized, since I would lose the ability to supplement something smaller with a numpad (that's two boards).  Even if I didn't think I would use it, I couldn't make the choice knowing that I could never use a numpad for the rest of my life.

My choice is 4704 107-key Model F, since Model F BS is the best and that board has the most compatible layout (of the boards I own).  If I had an F-122, I might have said that.   :)

Kishsaver, I don't own one but I've tried two and they feel far to good to not be the answer.

Edit: If you have to own it or be able to get it in the future, I'll simplify my answer to any Model F.

Does it have to be your own one?

If yes, then my WASD with clears and Nuclear DSA.

If not my own, then a GON TKL with ergo clears, orange and white LEDs, Cherry Replica set.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Opposite here. I have an F-122, and love it, but it's a little too big to comfortably use with a mouse. If I had a 4707, that would easily be my answer.

Still, Capacitive BS is Capacitive BS. If it has to be something you already own, I'd still go with the F-122.

We can all dream of something out of reach.  Unfortunately, it has to be something you already own, or can own in the near future.  I think that's fair.

A TKL / MergedTK layout board with Complicated blue alps, magically modified to have MX Stems and nice Olivetti thick PBT keycaps. Total RGB backlighting, fully programmable, built as solidly as a Saturn V Rocket and a flipped spacebar. And a red escape key. Gotta have a red escape key.

Also you didn't say we couldn't change the keycaps :p so I'll start with the leopold thick pbt side prints I have and if I had to change them would be GMK dolch doubleshot abs.

Any layout with my modded ergo clears. If possible, a layout with arrows, but it would not be a requirement. I'd prefer also TKL or smaller to allow some space for the mouse.

If I wasn't so worthless at modifying things (at 41yo - I still haven't figured out what I'm good for) I'd give a slight nudge towards a ANSI modded Model F.

I would say either a 4704 77 key
F XT
F AT with ansi mod and numpad area modded to 4x5 matrix.

Any of those would work for me.

DIY (split column-staggered sculpted with lots of thumb buttons) ergo keyboard + built-in double trackpoint + built-in 3D trackball on ball transfer unit bearings + built-in several more mousewheel-type analog inputs + maybe a 6DOF spaceball thing.

Switches = Alps plate spring (or whatever HaaTa manages to build in the next 5 years)
Keycaps = DSS-ish spherical profile, legends irrelevant
Fully programmable firmware that can mix/match functions from analog and digital inputs, with macro recording & other fancy features
