Rubber dome, bleh... I know, I know... but it has to be my MS Natural Keyboard Pro that I have been using since 1999.

Never given me a problem.  When spend 10 hours in a day writing software, I cannot use a TKL or anything like that.  I need it all.  I wish I were a whiz and could figure out how to put mechanical keys in it, but I cant.  I have many mechanical keyboards for fun, and I use them.  But for really banging on my keyboard, I need my natural.  Not the BS 4000, not the f'ed up Elite.  The real deal Pro.  I bought 4 of them about 10 years ago, just in case mine decided to kick the bucket, but haven't needed any of the backups yet, its still going strong.

That said.  My first and favorite keyboard was my IBM PC model F.

If I could have that keyboard with the layout of the Natural Pro, I would be in heaven (and would pay good money, hint hint hackers).

Well, they made a split BS keyboard, but good luck finding it without spending an arm and a leg

I took 3 of those Natural keyboards to Goodwill, because they made it harder to cross my hands when I type.

I guess some people have real talent these days.  I know there are pianists that can do that, but that's a different keyboard entirely.

Oh, this isn't talent. That's just how badly I type. I kept reaching across the island in the middle to get at the keys I normally type.

No question: SteelSeries 6Gv2. No fancy keycaps, disco lights or Star Wars doodads—just pure, classic mechanical goodness.

Oh, and Cherry MX Blacks—switches you can easily actuate without bottoming out. (Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to slam the back plate to type fast.)

Oh, I still love my Alps and my Cherry keyboards and hate just about every Topre keyboard that isn't a HHKB, but the HHKB is the apogee of keyboards.  The others are nice, but if it it had to be one, it couldn't be anything other than the HHKB.

And if anyone says Model M in this thread, I don't even know where to begin with you.

Imagine being doomed to use this keyboard for the rest of your life.....  Countless hours using that!

Edit: I actually had to use one for some time.  The Atari 400.  Programming, typing, everything was a chore.  It still has my vote to be the computer with the "Keyboard from Hell".  I thank Atari for not having any future computers with that keyboard.  Be grateful you never experienced it.  And if you had, I empathize entirely.

I would gladly use my IBM M13 for the rest of my life.  At this point you have to pry my fingers off the keys to get me to let go of the thing so I wouldn't have a difficult time using it for the rest of my life.

My HHKB Pro 2 w/ Dental Band mod, I didn't think I could like it more but I think it sounds better now that I have the thock without the thack coming up. And it was the easiest keyboard mod I have ever done, even easier and faster than swapping springs.

Once I'm done swapping domes between my RF 87U silenced variable weight and my RF 87U 55g, the resulting silenced 87U 55g will rule over all other keyboards I have.
You'll need a Digilog case after swapping the domes... then you'll have a keyboard to rule them all (except for the HHKB Type-S, which just plain rules over everything)

I was wondering where you came up with this choice with so many questions you ask everyone?  Is this your choice or have you ultimately changed your mind to something else now?  It seems to me that you are terribly undecided.

My reasoning came down to rarity. I can always buy and build a twin GON, but the chances of my buying another LZ-S in original sky blue are almost none. Trust me though, I love my GON and it's going with me to the grave. ;)

I've changed my mind. Now that I've tried more KBs and know more about them, my one-and-only KB would be a 1986 IBM Model M p/n 1390131 with the original barcode label. Of course you can't see the label when you're using the KB, so it's rather silly, but just knowing it's there... Anyway, thank you.

1. Model F fan club
2. HHKB fan club
3. The rest
Forgive my intrusion but I'm getting the impression this is more accurate:

1. Model F fan club
2. HHKB fan club
3. People who own neither and are trying to overcome their jealousy
May all your key presses strike true.

Just to be clear, there is a correct answer to this thread. That answer is "Mira."

But the Mira doesn't exist yet! I don't want to have no keyboard until then!

I will have to default to a blue Alps board, but despite preferring 60% over fullsize I'd probably take my Nan-Tan over my Minitouch.  The standard layout wins over the awkward Minitouch layout.
Currently GMMK Pro: lubed 68g U4T, FR4 plate, extra gaskets, etc
