Unknown Keyboard Type

I've recently come across a keyboard I can't figure out. It's key caps are MX compatible but they are on what seems to be a rubber dome keyboard.

So as with all things computer peripheral related I turn to the trusty GEEKHACK community.

What the heck is this thing?

I think Maxi-Switch (the OEM obv.) made some boards with RD's and mx-compatible keycaps. It's not so uncommon. See below:

This approach is used to avoid tooling up custom key caps for proprietary rubber dome designs.

Keycap tooling is extremely expensive, so instead of doing new tools for each key size, you can just tool up an adapter that converts each rubber dome cavity to a Cherry stem.  Cherry keycaps are fairly standardized and relatively easy to source.

The downside to this approach is that it's more expensive.  You have one extra part for each key on the keyboard.

Good to know that the keyboard body itself isn't worth much but at least the keycaps are usable.

For what it's worth, BTC keycaps were also cherry compatible.
