A friend brings me over a 6 pack of 12 fl ounce Diet Pepsi. I take a drink, and am hit with its flat, scummy taste. I look at the expiration date, and it's May 21, 2018.

This happened today.

I haven't had a single soda since the last day of June, 2017.
That night I had the worst acid reflux attack of my life.  The experience was like pouring hydrochloric acid down my throat. Most painful experience I ever had.
Considering the fact that my mother's esophageal cancer manifested in a tumor that grew out of the scarring in her own throat from acid reflux, (and ultimately was responsible for her death,) I'm not fooling around.  Soda is one of the things I just don't drink anymore.

I still think of RC Cola once in awhile though.  It was my favorite.

I never drink soda. I hate carbonated soft drinks.

Even with beer I hate the carbonation, so I prefer nitro beers.

Diet soda, aspartame is gross

Modern diet sodas (ie Coke Zero) and the flavored stuff are pretty good. You can't taste the aspartame in them. Diet Pepsi is among my least favorite diet colas but eh, didn't want it to go to waste. Problem is the soda was flat for being on the shelf for so long (nearly 8 months expired, wtf) and the taste was awful even by Diet Pepsi standards. Didn't even taste like cola--****, I don't know what it tasted like.

All said, I've also grown (largely) immune to the taste of aspartame due to not being able to drink regular soda (I have the diabetes). I also have grown to dislike the sticky syrupiness of regular soda.

Good friend
To be fair, not many people check the expiration dates of soda when they buy it. Even low quality diet soda sells much faster than it expires. Stuff has a decent shelf life too, so who knows how long this six pack was sitting out....

Ohhh, look at Mr. Fancy Pants over here ;)

IMHO, welch's tastes most grap-y out of all the grapsodaz

Pineapple soda's,  Fanta is super good, but the local drug store brands never fail, I don't think I've ever tasted a bad pineapple soda as long as its cold.

Orange soda.. It's between Fanta and Sunkist,  I know some people like crush and surge, but more than once I've had cans of which were slightly chalky.

Though Fanta is probably my favorite of the bunch, it's been a while since I've had a grape soda with my lunch.

BTW, 90s' Fruitopia > All Fruit Sodas (includes strawberry lemonade soda)

I loved Fruitopia.
Interesting side note, Kate Bush did a lot of the music used in the 90s commercials.

My brain completely ****ed me in my interview today. I was prepared, ready, and confident, but as soon as I sat down my brian just said, "**** you, I'm out." And every answer I gave I was struggling and stumbling. I had a VERY EASY whiteboard problem to solve and I just couldn't do it, I gave the wrong answer like 3 ****ing times. Then the instant it was over and I walked out the door a flood of a thousand well-versed and knowledgeable answers popped into my head. I don't know what happened, it was like I had a stroke or something. This has never happened before, I am so mad at myself.

The brain area which handles Focus and Attention is significantly weakened by substance use/ high dopa lifestyles..

The only way to maintain focus after a while of living that way is to BE in the High-State,  (not on drugs high,  just on coffee/cigarette high)..

This is most demonstrably true for people put on Adhd medications.. whatever their natural ability was to focus without medication is completely eroded after long term use, such that they're pretty much completely dependent on the Amphetamines for focus.

A historical case, Paul Erdős ,  Super genius, Super on Drugs math guy..  He won a bet by not taking amphets for a month,  but couldn't do a damn lick of math during all that time..

Sooooo....  Well.. the sane thing to do is, test yourself,  how much of coffee do you need to maintain how long a focus duration and focus level..

The next time you go into an interview, have that timing in mind.

So you're saying I should start smoking and drinking again? Hmmm. While my body and lungs feel much better lately, my mind is constantly bored and restless. I am way more productive sober though, that is absolute.

Seems like these white board companies are turning away people that would otherwise kick ass if tests were done via computer. I'm pretty far from tech recruiting areas, but that's my two cents.

Well, no,

if you are in - transition - it will take complete sobriety and a length of a few months to a year for your brain chemistry to retune, depending on how long and concentrated your  Accel-Use was.

The focus will return, and you will recover, but there's no elegant way to put it,  Log cabin, chop wood when you're timid, no tv, no internet, no magazines, no pr0n, no beer, no greasy foods..

Many companies are moving from bull**** whiteboard questions to bull**** leetcode questions.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

There are probably changes you can make in the rest of your life which have the added effect of being happier with your job and in general. Or maybe you have the best job available in most person's perspective but there exists another that would make you more happy/healthy

In the US if you quit you're automatically disqualified from employment benefits. I don't have the statistics--I'd imagine the percentage of approved 'good cause' cases is rather low.

It's more of a work environment thing..

Would you rather work in a basement office, or outside with the rainforest to one's backdrop..

Same with the attractive females..  Hitted on or not, they form the background view.. making our slave labor days more pleasant.

I do feel strongly that since 'snowflake culture' has taken over work environments have unequivocally gotten more hostile and stressful. You have to constantly be walking on eggshells and not be yourself or voice an opinion for fear of being called into HR over zero tolerance policies that out of fear do not listen or consider every side of a situation. Office work especially has become such a toxic and stressful environment, and it definitely did not feel this way even less than a decade ago. Companies want to avoid potential conflict and save face more than they want happy productive loyal workers.

Companies want to avoid potential conflict and save face more than they want happy productive loyal workers.

I never really understood the term snowflake until I read an article that described it as super tribalism. That makes sense to me. Plus the awkwardness after the conclusion.

to quit my job to look for another one or just stay on the current one... Been like this for last 1 year...

find a better one before you quit  :) but the grass is not always greener on the other side!

Also, gotta scope the new company for attractive females first..

Oh wait.. IT ?

Workplace relationships are more dangerous than the outside!

I'm not sure what job audiosl4ve has. I am a Title Agent.

working at official mobile repair shop. I don't have collage or anything and it's hard here to do something without it. I mean paycheck is so-so, it's not bad but work enviorment is terible...

I'm not sure snowflakes would last in the company that I work at.
It's been around for over a century and been owned by the same family for 40 years or so. There's no such thing as a HR department here. There's not too much hand holding either, you figure out how things seem to work or you move on. If there is drama between co-workers, usually one of the parties involved will leave after extended uncomfortableness.  Directives from the higher ups can change or contradict each other over time, but I just go with the flow. Trying to fight the flow only ends in frustration.

All in all, it actually feels like the course of nature. It's job place Darwinism, in some aspects.

His insidy bits scare me a little to tell you the truth. Also the inside of a human is gross.
Which reminds me I once saw a guy getting operated on in the leg and I ALMOST lost my ****. Had to flip it off once they really got going(That's what she said).
But to get back on track: how many pc's do you have in your house now?
